Just got done with the sub riser I built for my Velodyne VX-11. I used some black automotive carpet, poly fill, spray foam insulation, and 3M fabric adhesive from the Wal Mart I work at. I also used two pieces of 3/4" MDF for the top and bottom, and 4 pieces of a 2x4 and some Locktite sealer from Home Depot. The reason for the 2x4's is that their sales rep who was cutting the wood said they couldn't cut a 3" height on the MDF due to safety reasons. Turns out the 2x4's were a better choice as they gave more of a solid support. Anyway here are the pics of the build.

Ok guys i apologize in advance if any one has asked this before. I just purchased a Polk PSW10 to replace the sub that came with my Onkyo HT-S5200 HTib (I also purchased a pair of Monitor 60's Two pair of T15's, and a CS1 center ch.) So here is the deal, I live in a 2nd floor condo and know the poor girl that lives bellow me is prob. ready to kill me.

I had to join this forum simply because of this thread. I've been lurking around here for a few weeks gathering information and ideas (mostly from Big Daddy's posts haha) but this has by far been the best thing i have done for my surround sound (other than upgrading from a HTiB
![]() At first i was a little skeptical at how a riser could make a difference in the bass quality, but boy am i glad i went for it. I went for the closed box SubTrap type riser as i had a couple of old stool type things lying around taking up space that were absolutely perfect for this purpose. They are basically boxes with a top that comes off and hollow inside. They raise the sub about 1', maybe 1' 1-1/2" with the rubber feet i attached and the improvement in the bass quality is AMAZING. I didn't take pictures during the process (sorry) because i did it all in a bit of a rush and there wasn't actually much building since the boxes were premade, but i will explain what i did and maybe add pictures tomorrow if i get a chance. First i bought 3 large rolls of Poly-Fil Tru Foam from Wal-Mart (24"x72"x1" since i was making 2 of these) which totaled about $50. I cut the foam down into squares the length and width of the inside of the boxes and stuffed them to the top. Then i bought a 20"x30"x3/16" Elmer's Sturdy Foam board from Wal-Mart for about $3 to use as the tops, and also from Wal-Mart (love this store right? ![]() |

Finally got some pictures!
![]() This is the Elmers stiff board that acts as the top cover ![]() This is a side view of the Elmers board for an idea of the thickness. ![]() This is a side view of the box i used, pretty nifty that i had two of these lying around ![]() ![]() This is a close up of the rubber feet i attached with the Gorilla Glue. ![]() This is the foam that i used inside, packed all the way from bottom to top. ![]() This is the blanket that i used to cover the top. ![]() This is the finished product where it sits without the sub ontop. ![]() And this is how it sits now with the sub, creating smooth, tight, clear, non-wall-shaking bass ![]() That's it, so simple yet sooooo effective. Thanks again guys! Peace~ |
