Youtube polls carry no weight but it was still disappointing to see almost everyone say Scream should get the boot out of a list of 90s films including Groundhog Day & Mrs Doubtfire.

I wonder what the numbers are looking like for this film. Is it a soft reboot? The original trio are still in. Haven't followed any information.

The 4th one was a disappointment at the box office, so I can't imagine that 11 years later there are even more people now who want to watch a 5th film.

It is a sequel, not a reboot/remake at all in fact.

Saw the featurette for this before Ghostbusters last night, and after it played, the people in the row ahead of me loudly said

"Is that ANOTHER Scream movie?!"

"No, it's a remake of the first one, that's why it's the same title."

So there definitely seems to be some (understandable) confusion over what it is. The time between films didn't help, either, but what can you do? It always surprises me, with all the technology we have at our disposal, how little research people will do when it comes to new films in a series. That said, a teeny little indication in the title would have been nice (It will always be 5cream in my head)

People thought Scream 4 was a remake too even the #4 was rubbed in their face. The GP are full of idiots, what can I say?

When i went to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife last night. I saw a huge cardboard display for this. It was by the front bathrooms.

Most people don't even know what a remake is or what the difference between remake and a reboot is. Why would a Scream remake have the same actors from the other films? People are just retarded.

Paramount needs to put the first 3 films on Netflix. Sadly, that's the only way people can catch up with older movies now.

This movie only managed to trend twice on twitter.. first when the trailer dropped.. and again when the poster dropped.

It only takes like 20,000 tweets to trend so that's terrible. But the Scream fandom on twitter and reddit is stupid and toxic as hell. I doubt the fandom alone is enough to make it a box office hit.

Meanwhile Spider-man NWH trends every day it seems like.. that movie has all the promo without even doing promo.

You take far too much notice of things like Twatter. They are just a vocal minority. Scream 5 will do fine barring any major catastrophe with mass lockdowns.

Nah, it's a sequel. It continues the story.

Halloween 2018 erased every other sequel so it's a reboot, nothing soft about it.

Sequel - remake - reboot - let's stick with that.

They dropped the meta stuff for this one. It'll be something else.

I know that there's brand value here but, if they just wanted to make a movie about a slasher who makes phone calls, there's no need to use Ghostface.
Off topic, but Knocked Up and it’s sequel, This Is 40 each have just as much of this so called meta stuff (the satirical media commentary and other pop culture references as each of the first four Scream movies do.

I'm just glad that it seems like they aren't going the whole New Nightmare route, unless the trailer is a big red herring. The way they were describing it as a "fresh take" or whatever language they were using at the beginning, was highly suggesting that. I just wasn't going to be nearly as into that.

As long as they are playing their characters, I'm good, LOL.

Human-size poster at the AMC Tysons in the DC area:

Not a new poster but I thought it was neat to see such a huge version of it there. They also played the trailer before House of Gucci at the Dolby Cinema.

Is this a direct sequel to the first one; meaning, a continuation from the original?

And also, does this mean that the rest of the sequel (parts 2-4) didn't happen?
