I love that scene too. I feel it's probably the one scene in all of the prequels that goes above-and-beyond the normal cinematic confines of Star Wars, and is genuinely moving.

I have to laugh when JW shows the one lone raptor running towards the camera like he's the hero of the whole story.

So what's going to happen in Ep 9? Will it be a smackdown between two Death Stars - the classic one and one bigger one that's really an abomination? Will one lone Star Destroyer swoop in to save the day, or will one giant space worm devour everything?

Sound designers get final say on the sound mix, other than the director. It's not a "conflict of interest" if he contributes effects to the soundtrack any more than if say John Knoll as VFX supervisor rendered certain CG elements (as he did for a lot of movies he's done).

The CG looks far better on Blu-ray than it did in the theater. It seems they really toned down the teal color grading for the theatrical release...it looks a lot more realistic now throughout the film.

Picked up my physical ticket stubs from my Fandango purchase at the theater earlier today! Now it all feels so real!

Daisy Ridley will come running in wearing high heels and then let the "classic" Death Star out of its cage, ready to fight the new IMPROOVED one to the death, with a few Super Star Destroyers running interference in a very heroic way.

That's also what I had in mind when typing that post, it's not really a typically 'Star Wars' kinda moment but it's so powerful, and tells us so much using just picture and sound. IMO that's the Lucas who put together THX 1138 all those years ago, it's just such a shame we didn't see more of him.

As far as the other new episodes are concerned, I REALLY hope they've got something of a plan mapped out. Not a Lucas-style skeleton of an outline for an entire trilogy which he basically did on the hoof despite having several decades to come up with it ("they fight on a lava planet, job done!"), but a proper idea of what happens to whom and why so we don't get so many loose ends. Be nice if they actually carry some villains over from movie to movie, too.

The worst thing about Ben Burtt is that so much of the audio commentaries features him talking in detail about how he created the most minor of sounds, and I just wanna hear for Lucas or..anyone else!

Finn will have similar experience as C-3PO in The Force Awakens. Interesting how much JJ Abrams stick to the rhyming theory.

I have noticed more, I will make more comparisons when my boss is not looking again.

Ha! Not a fan of the "rhyming theory" (otherwise known as repeating things from earlier movies and it's not a theory, Lucas even said he was doing it and was going to even hit the "I'm your father" beat in Sith but lost his nerve after Clones)...but I'm all down for you posting Star Wars stuff when your boss ain't looking.

Methinks some are looking too far into this and trying to overthink the room.
A few nods are going to happen, but not to the extent that have been shown. Most of those comparisons are not really comparisons, IMO.

Re: Ben Burtt

I remember walking around the neighborhood, in the early '80s, with my cassette tape recorder and tapping the cables next to the telephone poles just so I could make the laser sounds from the Star Wars films.

Also, in the early '80s, right outside my mother's dance studio was a very busy section of state route. Whenever it rained and the vehicles went by it reminded me of the Tie Fighters and X-Wing Fighters flying by at high speeds.

I actually went out trying to re-create what Ben Burtt did...despite working with my cheap tape recorder and lack of mixing equipment I thought it was pretty darn close to the effects.

Also, most geniuses are a-holes.

No no, it's just a bit of fun, I don't think they made the film trying to match everything haha. It's forcing a comparison for the most part.

I agree that the script was awful. Another thing to consider as well, there was absolutely ZERO chemistry between Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portman! They were like two lawyers talking to each other. I mean, to me it was so apparent that I'm shocked that casting did not catch that. Lucas used to talk about how he liked to audition actors in groups to gauge chemistry. Well, where the hell was that when casting older Anakin?

It all takes place in A galaxy far, far away... so how 'bout an invasion from another galaxy?
