The first time I saw this movie, in theaters when friends/critics were hyping it like crazy, I didn't really like it. Agreed with Ray Jackson's thoughts, and then some. Also hadn't (still haven't) seen any of the older Mad Max films. I rewatched Fury Road with a friend who got the early CinemaNow code a few weeks ago and liked it much more the second time around. Something just clicked this time. Now I've bought the Steelbook and ordered the 3D disc separately from eBay. So I've come a long with my feelings towards this movie. I still don't think it's really as deep as people claim, and it's still a little overhyped, but it is a very entertaining and completely insane action epic.

Mad Max is a very well made film. still Shocked it was George Miller behind it.
This film has WAY MORE CG than how it's being discussed. The Blu made that completely obvious. It's great CG, almost seamless but this idea that almost everything is practical is ridiculous. There's a lot in this film.

Still more practical stunts than most action films today.

...I miss Bruce Spence.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the movie.

But it was missing a lot of the thematic substance of the original trilogy imo.
+1 for Bruce Spence. I would have loved to see him and his older son in this one. Maybe for the sequel.

Yep. The film has a lot of supporting CGI, but the stunts are real. Also lots of composite shots, but that's not exactly CGI.

A lot of modern filmmakers should take note.

Yep, it was mostly there to enhance what was captured with the camera. I do think they went overboard with the Sarlacc Pit, though.

The essence of the film is this:

...get from point A to point Z and back to point A again.

That's it--that's all there is.
there's plenty of character development, like the entire movie since the plot is simple as you said. Nux, Furiosa, and Max all develop and have their lives laid out without exposition and characters telling us what they feel.

This. I'm so sick of people saying there's no character development. The action and story/character development happen often simultaneously in this film.

I'm 48 & just watched the first two Mad Max movies for the first time in the last 2 weeks. Will watch Thunderdome & then the new one to complete the series when I get back from vacation. Not sure how I missed out when they were current. I was around at the time.

i just cant understand people defending this movie to the T. so what if reviews say it has no character development? telling us it does till were blue in the face is not going to change anything. people are really making this movie to be much more important than it is.

It's just a kick-ass action movie that looks (relatively) practical and has some great characters and moments. That's it, but that's a lot nowadays, when almost every blockbuster is an overdone CGI comic book style action movie.

If this came out 30 years ago, which it kind of did, it would still be awesome but not as unique.

Exactly, it's a throwback to the way films used to be made.

Default Blind bought this on Tuesday

I was told this was one of the greatest action movies in the last decade easily. I've now seen it and was not disappointed in the slightest. The video and audio are astounding and this clearly has plenty of rewatch value. Glad I bought this right away instead of waiting for redbox for 4 weeks. I'm happy with the film.

And Charlize Theron was incredible as well.
