thought I'd give it a shot.
![]() Got the crate from work (free). Outdoor mat for $4 at Wal-Mart. The foam I got at AC Moore for $25. Well the foam is actually Polyester Fiber Batting. ![]() They basically fit perfectly in there. Each sheet is 1" think ![]() After folding the stuff in there, it's 4" think in there. ![]() Threw the mat on there and sat the sub on top. It's now 5" off of the floor. ![]() |

I am in the middle of building one of these things. I have read through this entire thread and got 2 questions...
1.) If building just a riser with 2 2x4's as the legs, does it matter which way the "legs" run under the MDF board? Can they run sideways or should they run front to back or doesn't it matter? 2.) I kinda want the house shaking to go away. Should I enclose the bottom or keep it open using just the 2 legs? |

I used a set of feet of an old sub I had sitting around to put on the bottom of my sub in my bedroom. [Show spoiler] This was a very simple solution to my closet doors shaking violently at high db's.

I have rubber feet on the bottom of my sub, they are only about 1 inch high though. Where are you saying I should put them? Are you saying I shouldnt need a riser or on the feet of the riser itself? (sorry think I got confused) |

Ahhh, I remember now, carpet. Anyways, I'd still put some type of insulation under the riser to cut down on vibration even more. Last edited by Billy13; 08-01-2013 at 11:30 PM. |

Yeah Thanks!
The new Onkyo has been ALMOST flawless although I am not sure its its fault. When I put it on PC mode... I cant turn the volume up with my Harmony remote when I select the PC activity. Hasnt bothered me much since I just select the Onkyo on the Harmony and then the volume works so I guess it is with the Harmony? Heres 15 minutes of work so far.... On to the carpeting. ![]() ![]() |

Sorry guys, just got a chance to test it out.
So I made the mistake and didnt test it out first before I finally decided to run Audyssey for the first time (no one home and I thought about it). HUGE MISTAKE! I popped in Transformers 1, in the beginnning where the chopper destroys the base, there is some great bass there and I barely heard it. Had to go in and set all the speaker settings to where I had them. PLENTY OF BASS NOW! I knew I shouldnt of ran that crap. Dont like them auto setups. I prefer Big Daddy's advice! Yes it sounds much better. Sounds fuller. The walls etc arent rattling like they used to, although there is some. For the $23 I spent on the MDF board and carpet (I had the rest).... worth every penny! Highly recommend taking a couple hours and building one! My next trip to Home Depot I might pick up 4 furniture legs and attach them to the sub itself to sit higher off the riser. Opinions on that? |

![]() As far as something to use under the sub itself, check out an Ace hardware or something like that. They have a pretty good selection of short pieces that would good for you. Even like 1" rubber pieces, similar to what you probably have now. |

Its not styrofoam. Its more like sheets of cushion padding. They are like 15"x17" or something like that. Start on page 2 of this thead and go forward.... You will see what they are talking about to the T! They are in the crafts section. You will find bags of pollyfill (pillow stuffing) and stuff like that. They are there. I used some duct work insulation I had laying around so you dont have to use that exact stuff from walmart. Read through this day long thread and you will see examples of other stuffing/foam people used.

I am not handy at all.. So it's not the greatest but it works for me.. I have to change out the foam cause dumb me used styrofoam, oops!!
The materials I used.. But I bought the wrong foam and I didn't have patience for the adhesive, so I switched to velcro... Wrong foam right now, but will replace it. Velcro FTW LOL The results Not the best but good enough for me.. |
