The 14th? Most people will already watch the film by then.

It screams “okay this film is going to be shit” but press got notice they’re trying to keep spoilers under wraps as much as they can. The embargo lifts at midnight on the 14th.

I agree it’s foolish but, that’s Paramount for you.

So this is Scream 5 but they are calling it Scream!? What is it with studios and this arrogant, chronological confusing labeling of movies that are apart of a active running franchise!? Scream 4 in 2011 had no hesitation being called Scream 4 after Scream 3 from 2000.

I could understand it with Rocky Balboa (2006) after Rocky V (1990) because of the 16 year difference and the fact that Rocky V was universally frowned upon and that Stallone wanted to make things right, (although personally I'm a fan of Rocky V but I get why they did it). Ditto Rambo (2008) after Rambo III (1988).

What I don't like is when movies like The Thing (2011) which is a prequel, or Halloween (2018) which is a sequel, re-use the same tittle as there original counterparts giving the strongest of indications that it's going to be a remake, or reboot set in its own universe that has no connection to what came before. It's deceiving, lazy and cheap. By the way fair play to Rob Zombie's 2007 Halloween because that actually was a remake, so calling the 2007 film simply Halloween is obviously fine.

Funny that. I've seen Scream 2 and Scream 3 many times as a kid but only remember bits and pieces from them. Not that I thought they were bad films but nothing about them stuck in my memory for whatever reason. Scream 4 I really enjoyed and yet only watched once about 7 years ago. The original Scream will never be topped for the game changing legacy and impact it has. Unforgettable.

But why? What would they have to gain with that except allowing some people to not pay to go see it in the theater. They are throwing away money if they do that.

I think they just need to throw caution to the wind and keep it as a theatrical only release. If you feel safe to go to the theater then go, if not then stay home. Simple as that. I don’t think they should compromise at this point.

I also agree that the US will not delay this release. Furthermore, the 2 movie theaters near me have been PACKED even on weekdays so I have high hopes that Scream will perform well at the box office.

I think it will. There’s NO competition and Spidey will have been out for at least a month when this releases so most people have seen it already, some multiple times.

The argument for the studios is they can use a big release to gain more subscribers.

The covid numbers are crazy and we haven't even passed NYE parties and then a lot of people returning to work and school. I'd rather they just delay it (assuming they do anything at all).

At most, the movie will see a 45 day window before going to Paramount + like A Quiet Place 2. At this point, I think it's too close to release to making any major changes in how it's released.

I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been a second or final trailer yet, but I'm not mad at it. The TV promos have shown enough and I am beyond ready for this!

I am so proud of myself for not watching any of the trailers. Since the Scream films hinge on the identity of the killer, I don’t want to see any footage that might give me any SO EXCITED.

I had a dream that all the trailer footage was from Stab 8 (staring the real Sidney Prescott) and we were all punked. Please let that stay a dream.

That...would actually be some really clever marketing if I understood what you said.

I'd be surprised if they announced that at this late of a date...but I have found it interesting that most of the recent clips/posters/etc. that have been released over the past few weeks have gone from saying "ONLY IN THEATERS..." like the earlier marking stuff to just "IN THEATERS...". Even if they don't ultimately do anything like that, it feels like they wanted to give themselves the leeway.

Personally, I'd be tickled - and I'd also dump $30 to see it at home a la Disney+. As it stands, there is no way in heck with COVID numbers going up 1000% (literally...a thousand percent) in places, and we haven't even seen the "New Years" bump that will come over the next week, that I am stepping foot in any theater right now.

I'll probably just end up watching it...other ways...like I had to with Spiderman - it's a shame, I have money, and want to spend it - but even Scream isn't worth the risk to me. Hell, I'd give these guys $50 to watch it at home.

^ Maybe we’ll get lucky and have to wait just around 3 weeks (like Snake Eyes) for it to be available digitally. Though that would prolly mean the film bombed and I dont want that. I need more Scream in my life.

Still don’t understand why you can’t just mask up and go on a weekday when the theater would be virtually empty. I don’t why that would be any less safe than going to a store.
