Since I use a 60 inch PRO-141FD and 50 inch PRO-101FD monitor the firmware update is not for those models. I hope in the future Home Theater magazine does a head to head testing of the new LG OLED 55 inch model that is currently selling at Best Buy. Home Theater magazine still uses the Pioneer PRO-141FD as a reference display to compare all other flat panels too. The 2008 60 inch Pioneer PRO-141FD looks like a bargain with a list price of $7,000, when compared to the new 55 inch LG for $14,999. I wish Pioneer would surprise everyone and come out with a QUAD HD 4K OLED in 3 or 4 years from now. It would give me an excuse to upgrade my displays. |

I might sometime in 2016-2018, upgrade my Pioneer plasmas to 4K QUAD HD OLED models. The two current 55 inch OLED models on the USA market are only 1080P. At 55 inches that is good for a bedroom TV. It would be ideal one day to have a 4K optical format connected to a 90-100+ inch 4K OLED display. If low cost OLED screens that are 100-150 inches are made in the far future then the demand for projectors will greatly decrease.

About $1,000. Selling a plasma these days is kind of difficult sometimes. Also, if you're selling locally, you don't need the box.

The following Sound and Vision magazine link is a very interesting read for those that own the 9th generation Pioneer plasma screens that were released in 2008 and that went out of production in April of 2009. Tom Norton performed head to head testing by comparing the reference Pioneer PRO-141FD to the Panasonic ZT60 series. The new 2013 ZT60 series overall matches the picture quality on the 2008 Pioneer PRO-141FD. For some scenes, the Pioneer had a better picture quality and for other scenes the Panasonic ZT60 was better. Overall, in key areas Panasonic engineers have been able to match the 2008 Pioneer plasma technology for the first time. The 2013 ZT60 is special since it is the first Panasonic plasma that eliminates the air gap between the panel and the protective glass. This feature was exclusively only found on Pioneer plasma screens until the ZT60 arrived.
This information is good news for Pioneer owners for two reasons: 1. It shows that for the last 5 years that Pioneer held the best overall 2-D 1080P picture quality that no other flat panel could match. Now the ZT60 matches the Pioneer picture and OLED surpasses the picture quality. 2. Now if someone’s Pioneer plasma were to break the ZT60 would be an ideal replacement for those that do not want to upgrade to OLED. http://www.soundandvision.com/content/panasonic-tc-p65zt60-3d-plasma-hdtv |

D-Nice calibrated my Pioneer 101 and 151
I have taken the #s from the calibration report and came up with contrast ratio for each panel , day and night mode Pioneer 101 contrast ratio day mode...... 254,640:1 contrast ratio night mode ....155,103:1 Pioneer 151 contrast ratio day mode ......72,833:1 contrast ratio night mode.....55,944:1 ***ZT-60 has contrast ratio of 30,000:1 *** Peak Light output for the 101 is 50.9 with MLL of .0002 Peak Light output for the 151 is 43.7 with MLL of .0006 Light output for night is 31 and 33 Colors are dead on , PQ is amazing Last edited by qwknuf6; 10-04-2013 at 07:06 PM. |

Gwknuf6, thanks for the calibration reports. The PRO-101FD has some very good results. Even though CNET and Sound and Vision did head to head testing which confirmed that in some key areas the ZT60 matches the 9th generation Pioneers. I noticed that other comments by Sound and Vision magazine and by others mentioned that for real world material in some movie scenes the Pioneer PRO-141FD had a better picture quality compared to the Panasonic ZT60 series. The good news is Panasonic keeps making improvements every year or almost every year when it comes to plasma technology. I never thought that when I purchased the Pioneer plasma screens that they would be used as reference displays for at least 5 years. I am in shock that it’s been 5 years and most professional reviewers are still mentioning the 2008 model Pioneer plasmas as a reference.
Personally, I and the family members I know have no plans on selling the several PRO-141FD’s and several PRO-101FD’s. 55 inch 1080P OLED is a little small compared to a 60 inch screen. I am looking at upgrading the Pioneer screens in 2018. By 2018 4K QUAD OLED screens that are 90-100 inches should in theory be available to play on the new 4K QUAD HD optical format which I am estimating will launch in 2016+. |

Optimal calibration performance is with a proper calibrated ISFccc Interface on the PRO-141FD. The other thing I don't see is what reference spectrometer was used to profile the "newly-acquired" Klein K-10 to each display. . Last edited by ControlCAL; 10-24-2013 at 03:40 PM. |

Tom's black level is different too. His first review of his 141 measured 0.001. Now it's 0.0015. He now has the red tint also. Kuros are still darker than the VT/ZT at 0.001 vs 0.0012.

I have a feeling that next years VT/ZT's will match (if not surpass if possible) the Kuro's black levels. If next years Panasonic plasma line will be their last (should all the rumors be true), it would be one hell of a way for Panasonic's plasma line to go out on.
