I think they already have a paramount deal though. Shout has released some Paramount recently as well. It’s got to be coming soon from someone R1

So far all the Shout titles have been horror films from the Scream line. The KL Insider when asked seemed pessimistic about the prospect of a deal with Paramount. If another label other than Shout were to announce they had a deal with Paramount and for non-horror films I feel more confident.

Sliding Doors did just get a collectors edition release... although Gwyneth Paltrow does scare some people. I personally can’t wait to get her candle

I believe that film's rights are no longer with Paramount or Miramax and that is how Shout picked it up.

Last week, Lulu Wang, director of The Farewell (2019), wrote an excellent essay about Fellini's Nights of Cabiria. I watched it for the first time around the same time she did in her life, and went on a similar journey of exploring Fellini's work. She discusses the ending, which I personally consider one of the greatest of all-time, and how it inspired the ending of The Farewell. It does have major spoilers in it, so I'd only read it if you've seen the film already (or don't care about that). I'm so happy Criterion have gotten this film back, it's easily one of Fellini's best.

'A Look is worth a thousand words..' was never a truer statement than in that film ("Nights of Cabiria'). Especially when you're one of the greatest actresses of all time.

I know there was talk about new Fellini releases, but did I miss an official announcement?

No. Everyone is just assuming it because Criterion has been getting back a lot of their StudioCanal stuff, plus Criterion has teased a big Fellini box this year.

They haven't formally announced it yet, but I'm very positive Criterion has it back. I asked Kino about it a little while back, and they said it's with another label. Since Criterion are pretty much the only other label dealing with SC here, it has to be them.

One of the things that I'm kinda hoping for from a Fellini box is to get the ultra-rare, stand alone feature version of "Toby Dammit", which hasn't been seen much in many years. It is commonly seen as it was first released, as a segment in the "Spirits of the Dead" anthology movie. There are segments by Roger Vadim and Louis Malle, also. The Fellini segment is last.

But there was a stand alone release of an extended version of the Fellini segment released around 1970, but it is very rare.

Obviously, I'm hoping it contains all of the other major Fellini films, as well.

Some worry that it may not contain "Orchestra Rehearsal" or "Voice of the Moon", because they are with Arrow, and "City of Women" is with Cohen Media. Luckily, I've already got those releases, anyway.

I'm hoping that it for sure contains everything from "Variety Lights" through "Casanova". And perhaps "Ginger and Fred" and "Intervista", too. It should have "...And the Ship Sails On" as it's already with Criterion.

I just hope they go lavish with it, like they did the Bergman box. That was a thing of heavy beauty....

But its doubtful Criterion will get into UHD, and there's already a region-free UHD coming out. So downgrading to blu is sort of pointless.

Toby Dammit is available on the criterion channel in addition to Spirits, so it’s definitely possible

Oh, wow! I didn't know that! I don't have that channel, as I prefer, you guessed it, physical media. So, I didn't know that!

But, yes, that definitely makes it seem like a much more likely possibility.

Thanks, FragnitoM!

re:Fellini. I'm more interested in seeing restored versions of films like And The Ship Sails On than seeing another transfer of La Strada or La Dolce Vita.

Hopefully the new restorations will draw more attention to his post-Amarcord work.

Arrow just announced Sixteen Candles, so no Criterion release will be forthcoming.

Odd, to say the least.

I have a feeling Criterion dropped it due to all the controversy that surrounded the title in recent years. They'd probably never admit as much. It would no doubt have been a huge seller for them, so there's little reason for them to have cancelled their release.. Many people, including Ringwald herself have spoken out about some of the negative aspects of the film in light of today's culture.
