I blind-bought this on Amazon for $5 because I enjoy heist movies and Jason Statham in the Transporter films. I found it to be an interesting film--much more complex than your typical heist film. The fact that it's based on a popular (but somewhat discredited) theory on a famous bank robbery makes it even more interesting. I can't rate it higher because nothing in the film really stood out (acting, directing, writing) and there wasn't a whole lot of depth to the characters.

I enjoy The Bank Job as well. I think it's a pretty well done film overall and that Jason Statham handled the non-action role pretty well too.

i was just about to buy The Bank Job, when it was $5.49, just like jhiggy did, and then of course, it was $9.99

not a terrible price by any means, but still. i wanted it for $5.49, so i can wait and hope it drops again soon

I bought it for well over that price, but that was back in late 2008 or early 2009. I can't blame you for wanting to get it for as cheap as possible though. Even if it never hits $5.49 again, it is on sale very often, so I'm sure you won't ever end up paying more than $9.99.

true. doesn't seem like a title that would jump up to $14.99 or anything. and isn't it a lionsgate title? those are always pretty cheap

Last Year at Marienbad

year: 1962 (U.S. release)
director: alain resnais
starring: delphine seyrig, giorgio albertazzi and sacha piteoff

finally got a chance earlier today to watch my copy of Last Year at Marienbad

second time i've seen it now and i can honestly say, i understand almost nothing that happens in the film. i'm not gonna try and be smart and say i know what's going on, because i don't. and that's fine maybe with more viewings i will understand and deconstruct it more.

but does that mean i can't like it? no. i don't think so.

even though i may not "get it", i still enjoy the hell out of it.

the directing - fantastic. i especially love the first 5 minutes as we're swiftly taken through corridors, hallways, ceilings, paintings, rooms... all done in a masterful, hypnotizing manner. love that

atmosphere and cinematography are definitely present, two more major plusses.

and the film is engrossing. my first time through there were a few moments where i got riled up and couldn't sit still waiting to understand or have a clue be shown to me, so the film kind of irritated me a bit, but not this time, and i've been thinking about it all day - which is a good thing imo

looks amazing for being a black and white film (my first black and white blu btw) and i cannot wait for the gf to see it (and some friends) tomorrow night i'm sure they'll be confused as fudge and hopefully i can then look smart (see, now i wanna look smart ) and school all their asses about what the F is happening!

* definitely not a character piece, which is something that most films have to have to have me really enjoy them (that's a lot of "have to have's" huh? ) but Last Year at Marienbad is one of the very few exceptions that works without a strong building of characters because of the story and success of other important categories. i recommend it, but know it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

4.5/5

Yes, it's a Lionsgate title, which is why it is on sale quite often.
