For those who are experiencing the loss of internet access or access to the PSN seemingly after updating to v2.76:
After updating to v2.76 on Thurs, it seemed my PS3's internet & PSN access were steadily declining over time. Today, I got nothing and could not connect AT ALL. I tried resetting, restoring system defaults, pretty much everything aside from a full system restore (which I was ready to try). My PC and other devices still worked just fine with the same router setup. I was only having the issue with the PS3.
I'm on Time Warner Cable (Road Runner) so I don't know if the fault is with Time Warner/Road Runner or with the v2.76 update (or maybe a combination of the two). Maybe those with this problem can post their ISP. If all those having issues are using Road Runner, this will help narrow down what and where the problem is.
Here's what fixed the issue for me: use OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com). I know you don't want to go plowing through the website looking for answers so I'll post the exact method I used to modify my PS3 internet connection.
*Note: I should make it clear that the procedure below does not require *any* changes to your router. You are only changing the PS3's network settings to use the OpenDNS servers rather than your ISP's servers.
Here goes:
1. Network Settings > Setting and Connection Status List > Write down IP Address, Subnet Mask & Default Router values to use in step 2.
2. Proceed in creating a new network connection. Setting Method: Custom. Continue through the setup process. When you reach the IP Address Setting, select Manual, then enter:
IP Address: (Enter your IP Address from step 1)
Subnet Mask: (Enter your Subnet Mask from step 1)
Default Router: (Enter your Default Router from step 1)
Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS)
Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS)
Continue with the creation process and complete the connection.
This fixed all issues I was having with v2.76 and/or Time Warner/Road Runner. It's still unknown as to who/what is at fault.
