Default Marantz SR 6003 VS Onkyo TX SR806

Which one to get ? I kinda like the look of marantz more, what's your experiences ?

Which one would be better bang for the buck ?

EDIT : or maybe a DENON of some sort ?

Thanks in advance

~Rusty

Hmm - what speakers do you plan on using?

This is a toughy though. But personally, I would go 6003. 805s were savage, monstrous powerhouses, but 806s...ehhh, not as much.

I've never toyed with the 806, my extent of messing with Onkyo ended at the X05 series and the 606, but from just the reviews here - and even though I had issues with the 7002 of the Marantz, their X003 lines are just incredible. Plus, you are getting a better sound. The extra wattage is all but negligible.

Cantons?! Oh to hell with you, get Marantz immediately.

How'd you track those babies down? Quite a rare breed indeed.

Well they are pretty common in Europe (i'm from Slovakia to be exact). They sound unbelieveably for the price.

EDIT : oh and btw your HT gallery is amazing

Ah! I would've never guessed Slovakia! Of all the central European countries, They're a gorgeous line, and one I know very little of, outside of their sparkling reputation.

And thanks!

i like the onkyo line just for the fact of being able to set individual speaker xovers. Not sure about the marantz line.

I went from the 805 to the Marantz 8002, huge improvement in sound quality. Needless to say I vote for the Marantz.

i have the SR6003. the improvement in clarity and detail was very noticable compared to the pioneer vsx 1015 i had before. but i can't compare it to the Onkyo because i've never owned an Onkyo

Without a doubt, the Marantz 6003, worth every penny. That's the best sound you're going to get without shelling out thousands of dollars on separates.

I would say Marantz, the 806 is not the 805.

That's awesome. Congrats on the new receiver. I look forward to hearing what you think once you get everything hooked up and give it a good listen.

Incredible! Hooked up sr6003 using microphone. (pretty cool). I put in Transporter 3 again to match what I had heard with the TV speakers. Apples and oranges. As expected made TV speakers sound weak in comparison, really there's no comparing the two. Went to a scene in movie where Frank is being chased by black Benz. Turned up the volume, the sound from the combination amp. and speakers made my adrenilen kick in and blew me away. Oh yeah I'm happy!
Want to thank all the guy's that helped me out with good advice! This forum has been a great place to get good honest imfomation. Oh yeah I haven't forgot will post up some pics soon.
To the OP I would say Marantz sr6003 all the way! Good luck in what ever you decide
