Default Universal encouraging pirating?

We all know aacs has been hacked for both hd-dvd and blue-ray, which leaves hd-dvd wide open and blue-ray with bd+. I can only imagine that there will be a cheap hybrid hd-dvd/(blue-ray burner) on the market within the next year. What is to stop people from burning dual layer universal movies onto dual layer blue ray discs and hence completing their hd catalogs? The hd-dvd folks can’t make the same claim, because 50gigabytes don’t fit on a 30gigabyte disc. In the end, I could see a lot of people pirating Universal movies.

Well, maybe if this happens they'll finally change their mind...

You are right, BD has BD+ dunno what HD-DVD is going to do? they probably have a solution but haven't released it yet. They could use WINZIP to fit the movie onto a 30 GB disk

Not quite. The hack for Blu-ray has for the moment been plugged (if the studios are taking advantage of it or not maybe another thing) This was solved by an upgrade to the Blu-ray playback software (all titles before this are hackable and any after that don't upgrade keys). The big hack for HD-DVD was done with the XBOX add on with some serious temporary hardware and firmware hacking. Without a recall for all those XBOX add ons it seems the genie is out of the bottle.

Remember Blu-ray.com does not promote or encourage of illegal copying or distribution and that includes Universal HD-DVD titles, nor will permit instructions posted (or links) on how to perform such activities.

Default True…….but

Your correct, right now blue-ray currently has the upper hand with the encryption/security problem and we all know that could change at any time. Lets just say that hd-dvd and blue-ray got totally hacked beyond repair, you still would not be able to copy a dual layer hd-dvd disc to a dual layer blue-ray disc, which mean any pirating would be a one way street.
I am also not suggesting that people start to pirate Universal hd-dvd movies, I’m sure it will just happen out of frustration.

For anyone who might have misinterpreted, this was meant as a joke.

Good for you guys! I was so disgusted by Digg giving in to hackers. They just drive the darn prices up!

Hmmmm... do you mean the xbox 360 add on made by M$??? The same M$ who said that both formats would be dead in 5 years because downloading content would take over??? Hmmm... I hope they don't make a bluray add-on to HELP out hackers.

The fact that most of the Universal titles will fit on a BD25 and that makes a lot more sense than using BD50 which is really expensive

In reality people have done this already. Though, it is not trivial.

Over time I think it will become easier though...

There is more to the copy protection system than just data based. There are also inaudible and out of frame bits of data encoded in the sound and video, or at least that was the plan, that will stop them from being played back on decks.

They were actually going to trade the purging of region coding for inclusion of this system on standard DVD a few years back to try to stop cam/telesync piracy.
