Default Blu-ray Sales Encouraging

http://homemediamagazine.com/high-de...ouraging-14012

Good to see more good news after all the recent bad news we've been seeing lately from downers, unfortunatly no official numbers are given besides that of Hancock, but all in all very good.

Bishop: I’m not going to give you details but January is going to be a critical time period because Blu-ray hardware has sold so well. We anticipate January from a Blu-ray perspective on software to be very strong.
^^ Could this mean some major sales to push software sales?

I sure hope so.....if it does happen, mass adoption of blu-ray could happen faster than we expected.

Great news for Blu. Hancock sold 300,000 in the first week The 300,000 will make it easier for us that like to extrapolate the weekly sales number to figure out what the rest of the BD titles sold.

Sounds great and I had noticed the change in ads. That was a very welcome change. That is, saw some ads just mentioning the blu-ray version and some that mentioned the blu-ray version first with the DVD mentioned as an after-thought at the very end (like blu-ray normally is).

I added the bold to the text below.

Quote:
Bishop: It was good for Blu-ray. Hancock sold nearly 300,000 units through six days of release and a lot of that was on the Black Friday weekend. We were really encouraged with what we saw. Additionally, the numbers we are getting from our partners on the hardware side, both from PlayStation and Sony Electronics are very encouraging. A lot of key retailers actually sold out of Blu-ray players, which is a sign that it is one of the four or five hot consumer electronics items in the marketplace.

Besides us, all of the studios have not only mentioned Blu-ray and DVD in their main ads, but they are also calling ads specific to Blu-ray. That will go a long way toward driving consumer acceptance.

I have notice the same thing on TV adds. They mention the BD first and show the pic of the BD case in the front of the DVD, I saw TDK add last night it was done that way and so was Prince Caspian

Good catch on the info related to the ads...I have also noticed that emerging trend.

There was a poll that the BDA IIRC, did, which showed about 1/2 didn't know format war was over. I think they need to run ads telling people about it or something.

Yeah, Hancock's just doing SOOOO great- which is why the Best Buy store I work at sent back over 50 of their 80+ copies yesterday, right? Let's quit confusing sales with product pushed out of warehouses!

I tried to post a response also, but it didn't seem to take. I hardly think Best Buy would send back over 50 copies of the movie after only one week of being on sale and also with Christmas coming up.

I have to admit I like to kick BB employees as much as anyone here. But I went to BB to pick up an SD card and checked in on the Blu-ray section. I had a conversation with one of the most intelligent salespeople I've met thus far. She was able to answer any question I threw at her.
