Default Best simple speakers for a bedroom?

I'm gonna buy a Samsung LN40B650 for my bedroom (it's a 11' x 14' bedroom), and I want to have separate speakers for the TV.

Nothing that fancy, just good quality soundin. Two speakers, or maybe two speakers + center channel if that.

your bedroom is about the same size as mine... and thats where I have my Tannoy DC4 Towers ($1200 a pair), and I consider that my "mini" system... so you should certainly, as beta man said, provide us with your budget and what style of speakers you prefer

Around $200-400 maybe.

What I meant by simple is that I like good sound, but I'm not really an audiophile, so I don't want 5.1 at the moment, just a basic speaker setup.

i really hate to argue semantics... but i've heard far better 2.0 systems than i have 5.1... stereo is, in many ways, far more of an "audiophile" setup

that being said... for $400 you should be able to work out a decent 2.0 setup...

You could get the Onkyo 8255 stereo receiver for under $200 easily... or you could go with the 8555 (harder to find a decent price on, but it has twice the power and a subwoofer pre-out) and Polk Monitor 40 bookshelf speakers

Yeah sorry about that, I just don't know much about audio stuff

But is the receiver necessary? I was just thinking about speakers, since it's just for my bedroom.

you have to have something to power your speakers, so you will have to have a receiver.

yup, its either receiver and speakers or a soundbar or computer speakers... the receiver and speakers option is the best way to go.

Beware upgradeitis, this sounds like just the mini-project to give you the bug.

The Polk 50's are nice... like a good Chevy.

Anyone think he would be a good candidate for a speaker bar?

The price range, room size, and listening 'needs' seem to match up almost exactly for what he is looking for. They can aesthetically look more pleasing than a couple of standing towers in a bedroom, but I have no idea how they sound.

I was thinking the same, I've never heard one either, but they look cool.

I might have to disagree with you on the room size. My projector is 11' away from the screen (as far back on the wall as possible) and my room is around 14' wide too. If you take a look in my gallery, you'll see my entire theater is in my bedroom. A little rearranging makes it an awesome bedroom theater with ample moving space. As for a sound bar, this would probably be the only sound bar I'd ever actually consider. It had the most convincing surround effect I've ever heard in a sound bar before and it looks pretty cool too. You still need a receiver with it though.

Yeah I was looking at those just now. It's a pretty big room, but there's still neighbors and my brother next door, so I don't want huge sound, hehe.

It's more like, I know LCD speakers are kinda crappy, especially when trying to listen to conversations in movies, so I thought maybe a pair of speakers, or yeah a soundbar, could make it better.

Here is an informative/critical listening article concerning sound bars.

http://www.hometheatermag.com/compac...und/index.html

And some sound bars that fall within your budget.

Polk Audio SurroundBar Speaker System -
List Price: $949.95
Price: $377.04

Yamaha YAS-71BL Front Surround System -
List Price: $599.95
Price: $279.99

Yamaha YSP-1100SL Digital Sound Projector
List Price: $1,699.95
Price: $607.76

I'm personally in love with option #3. Got to love the $1k discount from MSRP.

I'm assuming your room is perfectly rectangle? No funny architectural designs?
