Just added a pair of EMP EW25's to the new Sharp 42'. The new sharp had horrible audio on it. Even my wife (non-audiophile) recognized the drop in sound quality from our old Toshiba. This gave me a chance to add my EMP's. Problem was that the tv was angled and these look best flush mounted. I probed the internet to find speaker attachments to the wall mount. The speaker hardware I was looking for was sparse at best. I decided to go to home depot and do it myself. After a few trial and errors I settled in on plain old closet rails. The speakers just happened to be the exact size of the TV and the rails fit to a "T". Drilled a few holes on the rails and mounted the speakers. The speakers are approx. 16lbs. each. The rails are minimal weight. The Tv weighs in at approx. 50lbs. The wall mount could handle up to 110lbs. so I think I am safe.
Now the problem. I want power to the speakers, but do not want a receiver sitting under the TV. Does anybody know of a good all in one unit (HTIB) that could power the speakers (50-200watts each) and look minimal under the TV. Or any other suggestions. I was thinking of actually going with computer speaker outfit. One sub and get rid of their speakers and use mine. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated. |

What you want to do is just asking for trouble. HTIB's usually are proprietary. Yes, some use 6ohm speakers like you have, but the speakers a lot of times have special circuitry which typical speakers don't have. This was the case with an old Pioneer HTIB that I had. It was stated on the speakers and the manual that these speakers should only be used with the included receiver and the receiver should not be used with other speakers. There is a risk of fire if done so.
Only Onkyo and Yamaha make HTIB's that use standard equipment as far as I know, but then you're not going to get a receiver included with enough juice for those speakers since they are 6ohm. The Onkyo and Yamaha HTIB's come with entry level receivers that are good for 8ohm speakers, but not so good for 6ohm. Sorry but IMO your best bet is to get a good receiver that will have enough power at 6ohms to use those speakers. Last edited by lojack1976; 12-13-2009 at 01:51 AM. |
