Question distortion? audio encode?

Just wondering what distortion sounds like as I might have a problem and also what potential causes there are for it?
Now I may just be getting what I think is some distortion but it's in the audio track and not to do with my speakers or wiring or receiver. I've noticed when watching blu-ray's lately that sometimes when people are talking loudly (mainly in center channel) that there is some type of what I'd call distortion coming out as well as the talking. This also happens on some movies on the surrounds with airplanes flying over but I think it's how its supposed to sound maybe on those.
Could be in the audio track though because I read somebody had the same thing and named the part in transformers bd where barricade was asking sam if he was ebay username ladiesman so I went to that scene and heard it as well. One example of the planes flyover I'm talking about is on Indiana Jones KOTCS when the plane takes off from the airport and flys straight over you.

Is this with the PS3? I would check the volume setting for the PS3 when playing the movie. You press TRIANGLE and if it is not set to 0 then set it to 0. Having this setting above 0 can cause clipping and distortion.

It has it on my ps3 (PCM) and my Pioneer 51fd (bitstream). My ps3 is set at 0 on volume control and the Pioneer doesn't use volume settings since I'm not using analog.

I know where you're coming from. When I upgraded my speakers, I re-watched Transformers on blu-ray and for the first time heard some strange sounds I'd never heard before when certain transformers were talking. After watching closely, I was finally able to determine it was a background mechanical sound that happened sometimes, and that it was supposed to be there. I had never heard it before though with my older speakers. It had me concerned for a few minutes that something was wrong with my center channel.

I will say though that on for example Terminator blu-ray there is some distortion when kyle reese talks loudly on a few parts. I think that is from the audio master though.

I had the exact same problem when I originally bought my CC-390 center speaker. After trouble shooting and switching speakers and receiver channels around It came down It came down to the speaker being the problem. One of the midrange drivers was intermittent - was a loose voice coil.

When I pushed on the driver with a little pressure the sound was constant but when I released pressure it would cut out - then spit out sound on louder noises especially vocals. Give that a try or what I mentioned earlier with switching the speakers or channels on the receiver to test. From what you are saying it sounds like the same problem especially with the louder dialogue - if not hope you it's nothing too big to fix. Good luck man.
