Default What would you buy with $1,000?

OK, it appears I am in line at work to receive a nice little bonus of $1,000!

So, I am now in the market for the following 2 items, and I am not sure if I should spend it on a new sub and save the rest for an awesome new AVR for later, just get an awesome new AVR now or get a new sub and a new low-mid level AVR, something simply better than my current AVR.

Current subs are 2 Polk PSW10's (would probably go to 1 sub with a good one)
Current AVR is the Onkyo 605

I really have no idea how to proceed based on having this "mad money" given to me. I even have the OK from the wife to spend it as she knows it is extra money I earned at work.

My tastes currently are for the following:

For an AVR - Pioneer SC-05 ($900 right now on Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Elite-...3954731&sr=1-6
or
Denon 3808 ($1,009 right now on Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-3808...3954636&sr=1-1

For a Sub - HSU VTF-2 MK 3 ($549 on their website)
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2-mk3.html
or
SVS PB12-NSD ($569 on their website)
http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb12nsd.cfm

I feel like I am 12 years old on Christmas Eve.....

Wow, that thing is a monster, it is aesthetically awesome to look at too. It appears to do everything, even eat small children .......nice price too!

Good to see that the cylinder subs are not as expensive as I thought....thanks Grevlin!

Congrats on the bonus! I have to recommend the sub as well. Greviln's suggestion looks mighty good too. I would also look into a couple models from Epik as well, like maybe the Sentinel or the Dragon. Any way you go, though, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I can tell you that they are pretty sweet

It's amazing how $1k becomes "Not that expensive" when you get a bonus

It's a tough call between the sub and the pioneer but I think I would ultimately go with the sub. Get the pioneer later in the year when it's hopefully on sale

id go for the SUB

but i think differently.....let me explain

1st off....kiss the wife for letting YOUR MONEY be YOUR MONEY!!

that being said id go for an ED A2-300 SUB for $350
then
id go for an ONKYO 806 for $599 or so

you could probaly foot maybe $200 'out of pocket' and get both the sub & receiver.

Thanks Don. This is a tough decision as I probably will not have the chance to do something like this (get a higher end sub or AVR) again any time soon. I just want to make sure my decision is as "future" proof as one can make.

I know you've been drooling over that Pioneer Elite AVR (update: $945 NOW at Amazon! Lol). That said, the Subs above sound Really good too. THAT said...

THIS makes decent sense as well! - wow, glad i'm not you! I know you want an updated AVR with pre-outs & have been thinking about the One VERY GOOD/GREAT Sub thing vice having 2 decent ones like you do now... SO, the 806 & ED A2-300 seem like the best idea IMO. I know you'll change your mind 20 times on this today, so good luck!

Buy ammo and then re-sell it in 3 months for twice the value. That's what my spare money if going into these days.

Doubt the WAF will go with this, plus it's not what he's looking for & don't think he needs them. We'll see -- what a dilemna to be in...!

I'd say the sub will give you much more bang for your buck with your current setup. I doubt you will need the other Polk sub if you get a nice one.

If I had that bonus I'd get: Epik Sentinel
