Default Sports on Plasma Thread

I don't think Plasmas get enough credit at being utterly awesome for viewing sports events. They are so superior to LCD it's sad. Motion blur just does not exist on these units.

Any LCD owner who stops to watch hockey, nascar, football, baseketball, etc on a plasma is going to wonder why the cars/people/etc aren't blurring during fast movement. Then...when they go back to their LCDs...they'll see the sad reality.

I'm watching the Lakers vs Orlando right now. ABC is piping full Dolby 5.1 and with the sub going and the sound cranked...I feel like I am right there.

I was watching NASCAR last weekend. I -never- watch NASCAR. I watched the whole damn race cause it was just so...utterly...visually...stunning.

The other benefit of a home theater...my family actually stays in the same room for extended periods of time instead of scampering to their own respective corner of the house

Plasma + sports =

I've said this before-- people will lament abandoning plasmas in a few years. LCDs have low quality, and LEDs are too pricey. I think plasma's lack of "wow" factor hurts it in regards to sales, but I am happy with plasma and will never go back to LCD ever.

While I'm not a big sports fan, I agree that plasma is the superior technology. I hate to see it lagging so far behind LCD. In a way it reminds me of the old VHS/Beta-max war, where the superior technology didn't come out on top.

How to they compare to the 120hz lcd's for motion blur? Or the newer 240hz's? Has anyone been able to compare them to plasma's to see if the gap is closing?

Yeah, I watched game one Lakers vs Magic as well on my new KRP-600M. It was incredible. I also watched some tennis on NBC over the weekend and that was great too. Not as into baseball and football these days, but I will enjoy the occasional game. You can pick out every individual fan in the stands in HD broadcasts. No chance I can ever go back to a 50" plasma. LCD? Forget it.

I watch sports in sports mode. Default (haven't altered the settings).

I've been looking high and low for "ideal" settings for the various modes (optimum/dynamic/sports/etc) but they don't appear to be compiled.

This set appears to be the same as a 141FD if anyone can find THOSE settings.

The lack of any perceivable motion blur with plasma is primarily due to the extremely fast response time (microseconds vs miliseconds), not the refresh rate. Until that's addressed, LCDs will always have motion blur troubles, though many people cannot see it. It's the only explanation I can think of when I read LCD owners claim it is non-existant. I was at a friend's house a while back, and he had just installed his new XBR6. We were watching some football, and motion blur made it nearly unwatchable for me. I asked him if he was bothered by it, and he had no idea what I was talking about.

I agree sports look phenomenal on my Kuro. It just upsets me that plasma companies are not doing enough marketing to get this information out to the average Joe. Every single person I work with never even heard of a Pioneer Kuro and think that Samsung LED lcds are the best on the market. Probably because Samsung sponsers the NFL and has tons of advertisement. Every time I think about Plasmas disappearing I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

And it makes you wonder, what would have been the 10G, or even 11G from Pioneer? I mean, how much better can/could they get?
