Default The delights of fanaticism on the Internets

Knowing HD DVD zealots, they just could not let this go. While they were so happy to point out disc rot on some early Prestige copies, they got bitter when they were alerted to earlier wikipedia descriptions of disc rot on HD DVD first.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_rot

Thus, someone just had to add in a comment "Rotting has been a major problem *especially* for Blu-ray discs" to wikipedia. Notice the bolding of blu-ray too, while they hope that people might not notice any mention of HD DVD. It is disappointing to witness this.

I have had maybe 1% of old Laserdiscs rot and so far no DVD’s.
The link you provided has the following quote
Bluray Discs have had significant Rot issues due to their thicker coating known as "Durabis"

Can someone produce for me one BLU-RAY disc that has rotted with age? The format is only a year old I doubt that imperfections in pressing the discs would produce BLU-RAY rot in less then a year.

I hope someone will correct this FUD on wikipedia as this whole blu-ray rot thing has still yet to be proven.

Seeing as anyone can add to articles over at wikipedia, I may just go on the HD-DUD page and expound on my recent discovery about how HD-DVD causes cancer and that the format is directly funded by Osama Bin Laden. This has just about as much foundation in truth as the blu-ray rot claim.

Yup Don't know how wiki works exactly, but how can a simple HD DUD zealot be allowed to do something like that?

Just check the history of the page.

- Legeboy (bolding that Blu-ray thingie with the engadget FUD, changing reported to rumoured in the sentence about HD DVD, removed an affected HD DVD title and puts quotes around the word Blu-ray)
- anonymous (removed HD-DVD from one of the titles, removed complete HD DVD passage, removed same passage a second time, added the Durabis line)
- anonymous2 (putting back HD-DVD in the title, changing a Blu-ray passage into a HD-DVD passage, affected HD-DVD copies are combo HD-DVD)
- Kgelner (expanded the Durabis line, changed title to have all 3 disc types, added the HD DVD passage)

I currently count 2 HD DVD fans vs 2 Blu-ray fans.
Though Kgelner is trying to be neutral towards HD DVD.

Well firstly, neither parties should be messing about an entry for CD ROT.

Secondly, some of you should be the guard dog for anything BD related on Wiki.

Thirdly, somebody should add "If your HD-DVD can't play, try dunking it in hot water," as an entry for HD-DVD. And they CAN'T say that's not true.

I don't waste my time on Wiki. To many people with to many agendas.

I would like to see universities get involved in their own wiki and have people with a little more knowledge be involved in page making. WikiUni or some such, something where a board or panel of experts converse and qualify the page.

Wikipedia is a JOKE. No one has to be able to PROVE anything that is posted there. The whole thing should be shut down. They were even making jokes about it on The Office.
