Default Off Topic: Dave Matthews or John Mayer

Who do you think is the better guitar player?

I'm a fan of both, but I'd say Dave Matthews is better. His acoustic work is amazing. I love Mayer's Blues music, but Matthews is just beautiful to listen to.

Different guitar players entirely.....they can't be compared in my opinion.

I compare them because they don't play standard chords. They play very distinctive, compared to the Joe Perry's and John Frusciante's.....

Want different chords....check out the work by Bruce Cockburn.

Regarding your original post, I'm always hesitant to compare acoustic guitarists to electric guitarists, because the instruments are so very different. I quite frankly enjoy the playing of both and I can't pick between one or the other.

I'd prefer to listen to Dave Matthews...whether he is better than John Mayer is purely subjective

True dat. It's like: Leona Boyd or Eddie Van Halen? Impossible to compare.

I am also like John and cannot say one style is better than the other; I love both styles mentioned here (as well as other styles).

John Mayer is a better guitar player, so much more technical and can play a variety of different styles,

Dave Mathews is a better song writer though.

Definitely like John Mayer more here. Watch his Blu-ray called Where the Light is. It's fantastic!
