Default So...Mulholland Drive...

Finally watched this movie and wow...that's some crazy shiat. Who here's seen it and what did you think about it? This makes me want to see Lost Highway and some other Lynch movies, although I hear they are even more bizarre

I liked it a lot...... of course, if it falls into "non traditional" I tend to like it .....

AND that's not because I don't like "popular" films.... I just like "different" films.... the ones that are open to interpretation, and provoke thought.

This post reminds me of the Jim Gaffigan bit about 'Heat'

I've seen it a couple of times, and really enjoyed it. Unusual and complex movies are right up my alley. There are some great (and some absurd) theories about this movie. I remember some tidbits about my own theory, but my memory of the details are not clear enough to form a coherent synopsis at this time; it has been a long time since I have really thought about Mulholland Drive. I would definitely pick this up on BD.

Layers upon layers to this one. I've read "interpretations" that really seem like hot air. For the few who can handle a story without a concrete meaning- this is a top shelf flic. (And rare)

For those who really like this movie, I ask your thoughts on The Fountain. ??

My brother and I have had many discussions regarding this movie. I finally agreed with him that the movie is about nothing.

The Club Silencio scene is where this is explained. The entire movie is an exercise in diversion. It wants you to believe that there is something, anything there, under its surface. In the end. Silence.

Music plays but there is no band. The woman sings but she is not singing. They show you something to make you believe but in the end, it's all fake.

The simplicity would be fantastic. "Nothing" is somewhat subjective, but I will have to give it another viewing.

wow, very interesting interpretation mike...i took away that the majority of the movie was this one girl's dream (which includes her fears, hopes, and desires..which are generally manifested in many of our dreams in a random manner). the movie is laid out in a very "dream-like" fashion aka nothing is completely linear or "normal" (obviously); people pop in and out, sequences are randomly inserted just like in dreams, etc. but everything is tied to her desire to be an actress. that's kind of how i saw it, but i love hearing other people's interpretations since a lot of them are really cool.

I argued with my brother for a long time regarding it and I always felt there had to be some meaning considering the lengths the director went to confuse and display those images to you.

The scene that I always went back to was the ending when she is chased. There had to be a reason for that scene.

I love popcorn flicks. I love movies with depth. For example, I love discussing the religious allegory present in The Matrix, especially with people who just don't get it. But Mulholland Drive? I watched it, said, "what the f?" and never went back. It was so out there that I didn't want to put up the effort to watch it 20 more times in order to try to figure it out. Now 20 more times with the lesbian scene, that's a different story...

Maybe I'll change my mind and watch it again someday, but who knows? And just what were those little people running around anyway?

The "thing" that came out from behind the trash dumpster still scares me to this day.

My favorite movie of all time. I've seen it over 10 times and I find that I change my interpretation almost every time. That said, I feel Mulholland Drive is one of his more "accessible" films (which, I suppose, is why it's the most mainstream of his). I've also seen Eraserhead and Inland Empire (Confusing as hell but its definately worth watching if you like a good mind trip). If anyone has any kind of interpretation for Inland Empire, feel free to explain it to me lol

I kinda want to wait to see it at a theater, as the DVD is optically censored during the lesbian scene (per David Lynch's request) and I have no doubt that the Blu-ray will be too.

Is this the one where Naomi Watts gets naked?

If so I've seen it. Call me what you will but that's the only reason I rented it.
