Default Playstation 3 Question NEED HELP

I plan on purchasing a playstation 3 in the next day or so. I am a huge collector of movies (own almost 1100 dvd's). I was defintly going to buy Resistance Fall of Man.

I have two questions.

1. Does anyone recommend getting an extended warranty on the Playstation 3? I own a 360 and I know those have had some problems with them. If you recommend an extended warranty, where should I purchase this?

2. What accessories/games/movies are musts? What should be my first film i watch on blu-ray and my first game. I assume Resistance for game.

Thanks everyone and I cant wait to be blu

the ps3 already comes with free 1 year warranty and it is very durable and reliable unlike the 360. but if you think you are scared, then yeah sure go ahead. but i didn't buy the warranty.

i bought this remote for my ps3:

this blue vertical stand too, it's called Intec Glow Stand:

oh yeah, i suggest you wait until the 26th of june and buy Rainbow Six: Vegas for PS3 instead of RFOM.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4SsiEQuf8FE

the ps3 version of rainbow six vegas comes with 5 exclusive maps that is not available on the 360 version and it also comes with the free maps that the 360 people had to pay like 5 bucks each for them.

Accessories:

1. PlayStation/PlayStation 2 Memory Card adapter if you've got old saves to transfer over.

2. PS3 Blu-ray remote control.

3. Maybe a bluetooth headset, you might want to wait to see if they announce an official one at E3 though. An official one could communicate battery time remaining to the PS3 so it can be displayed when you hit the PS button.

First game: Resistance

First movie: Casino Royale / Pirates of the Caribbean

also Rainbow Six: Vegas comes with online co-op mode which owns 'cuz you can play with other players online and have them help you play against ai to complete missions such as hostage rescue or capturing terrorists. it's super fun. i think resistance fall of man was okay but it wasn't all that great.

the rainbow six: vegas of 360 version recieved a 9.1 score and which is extremely high and i heard people saying that it's funner than gears of war. also right now it is the best online game for 360. and i know it will be for ps3 too.

you also should get planet earth for blu-ray, i heard it has the crispiest clear and ultimate motion picture experience on a hdtv.

heres a video of a part of the planet earth BD, i bet you didn't know about this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pzi8cZ1I12U

Is there a reason to get the blu-ray remote? Does the controller do everything the remote does?

the remote is a unncessary accessory because the controller already does everything. but i just got the remote anyways because it looks like a real remote for a real blu-ray disc player instead of a video game controller. but whatever fits your needs, i hear some people complaining how the pause and play button and stop buttons are on top of ecahother and stuff.

The controller is really annoying to use, at least for me. If you even tap the analog sticks then the movie speeds in to rewind or fast forward. And the L2and R2 triggers skip scenes, and since they sort of hang out, half the time I simply place the controller down too hard the movie skips scenes. Overall it just frustrates me because I keep bumping into the controller in my bed or whatever, and I have to go back to where I was. Plus a remote looks much cooler to visitors that you're watching movies with. I'm picking mine up today.

I'd say go for either Resistance or Rainbow Six. I really enjoy the former and I'll definitely be picking up the latter.

As far as movies go, hands down: Casino Royale.

lol really? i thought the ps3 controller was easy to use, if you think the ps3 controller is hard to use, you'll think the remote is hard to use 'cuz it takes awhile for you to remember where the buttons are, it took me awhile to get used to the play, stop, and pause 'cuz they are in weird order.

i'd get RFOM (very fun CTF online) but i am very excited for Rainbow Six. from what i've heard its very good.

i think the best looking movie so far is Apacylipto (sp?). the PQ is amazing!

for accessories i got HDMI cable, optical audio cable, and extra controller (then i ran out of $)

The Blu-ray remote will save you from recharging your controller so often as it only powers up when buttons are pressed. It's possible to turn off the game controller while the movie is playing but then if you want to pause for example you've got to turn it back on, pause, play, turn it back off.

It's obviously useful not having to go through the TRIANGLE menu to access certain features. You can change from default lossy soundtrack to PCM or whatever with a quick button press.

I already own Vegas on 360. It is a awesome game, but i will not double dip. I think i will pick up an HDMI cable and RFOM. Does anyone know where i can get a HDMI cable cheap? Bestbuy charges some insane amount.

just pick some up at your local computer store they should have good deals if you're looking locally. Otherwise online would be your best choice.

Buy an HDMI cable from Monoprice.com. Excellent prices, service, and quality.

The second link is the higher guage cable. These are 6ft. They come in 3ft and up.

I used the controller for awhile, but eventually picked up the regular remote, it is DEFINITELY more convenient. I'm thinkin' BT headset at some time, esp. if City of Heroes comes out for PS3 (who knows if/when THAT would happen). Not really an accessory, but a wifi router is cool, lets your PS3 browse the internet (and online games!).
