Default Escape From NY / The Fog Question

Can anyone tell me why these two movies have been released, yet I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere other than Amazon for around $40 - $50 each? They are classics IMHO, and I would love to add them to my collection.
Thanks for any help with this.

They were released in the UK and France by Optimum Entertainment. Amazon US is selling the imports of these.

Region 2 is a DVD region. Blu-Ray regions are A, B, and C. Don't pay attention Amazon's region coding info.

Anyway, The Fog is region A/B, and Escape From NY is A/B/C. So order away!

Both of these will play in Region A players. That said, I would wait for U.S. releases as these are bare bones and are reported to have pretty mediocre image quality.

I completely agree, foreign releases tend to be less than good.

now that is complete Bullsh!t. many "foreign" releases beat their U.S. counterparts very well indeed. In every market there will be some stinkers, remember house of flying daggers in the U.S.??? well the U.K. version spanks it hands down. Escape from New York and the Fog tend to be a coupe of foreign stinkers that's all.

Agreed. I own some "foreign" releases because they are better than the U.S releases.
