Default Some Thoughts On Separates?

I did a search, & did not really find what I am looking for. I have a Denon 3808CI that was a big step up from my Old Yamaha. I am thinking about going to separates. I am going to get the Amp first, and use the Denon as the PRE AVP. The I will get a separate PRE AVP later, and move the Denon to my bedroom.

I currrently have a 5.1 setup, and with my space, I will probably never go to 7.1. I am looking at the Emotiva XPA-5. I also went by my Local AV dealer, who is really good. He has a 5 channel Anthem 225 watt that was thier demo model. He says that it will still have the full 3 yr warranty, and that I can have it for $1399.00. That is a really good price on this unit.

Is a used Anthem with warranty worth $600 more than the Emotive, or would I still be just as well off getting the Emotiva.

I know this is all subjective, just looking for some thoughts. I know both products get great reviews, and that I probably can't go wrong with either. All the same if the difference is hard to tell then I guess that I would rather save the extra cash, that way I can get the separate PRE AVP sooner.

Thanks for any help.

As an Anthem dealer im here to tell you....no honestly its not worth $600 more...

What model is it? The MCA-50? or older?

I had a head to head competition on some B&W 803D's with my RPA-1 and an Anthem Statement P2, and in all honesty they were both amazing sounding with those speakers. The P2 was a little better, especially at deep bass, but it is also Anthems top dog running you $3600 retail...whereas the RPA-1 cost $699

I agree. I don't know the entire history behind it, but Anthem in their former shell were Sonic Frontiers. That company then made amazing equipment. At present, I think that Anthem is marginal at best and I certainly wouldn't be seeking out any of their equipment. To some degree they are riding the coattails of their former selves with entirely different product and product that is very much inferior. I wouldn't necessarily put them in the same comparison as Emotiva, but for $600....it's not worth it.

I picked up my Emo XPA-5's late last year, and haven't had a moment's regret - at all. I love them. These things are beasts, and run much cooler than I thought they would. Also, the customer service is excellent. I don't know if they can be beat, value-wise.

My $0.02 anyway.

I completely disgree. The ENTIRE Statement series gear is highly sought after, and completley raved about. The D2v Processor is incredible. ARC is just down right scary good, and the video processing is fantastic. The Statement amps are completley modular in design and very very good, just very costly compared to other companies. Does that make them inadequate? Not at all, they just have more competition these days. Anthem is kind of like B&W these days, great quality, just entirely to expensive.

Now as far as the rest of the Anthem lineup, i will 100% agree with you

I should have made the distinction between Anthem and Anthem Statement. As such I stand corrected. My reference was purely aimed at the standard Anthem line.

Default Thanks

I believe that it is at least a year old, I did not get the model #. He said that I could take it home for a week and try it out. I did find out that I can get a B-Stock XPA-5 for $699. I think that is the deal breaker for me. I believe that I am going to be ordering the Emotiva. Just too much of a difference in price. I don't believe that the Anthem is $700 better in sound.
