just a curious question in starting a HT can you start with just a receiver & center speaker?

I wouldn't recommend it. Depending on the receivers listening modes, the only way you could get your center channel speaker to come on would be in a surround mode. Thus eliminating the rest of your speakers because they aren't there. It would be like listening to a movie with really good dialogue but not much else. I would recommend starting with the receiver and your 2 fronts. At least with a stereo mode you can get alot better sound. If you get some decent fronts you could even get good bass. Where as with just a center you will not. Whats your budget?

The 50's have 2X5.25" driver's and can get down to 42Hz, while the 60's have 3X5.25" drivers and can get down to 38Hz. That's really all there is between the two. The extra driver on the 60's makes them a better speaker and would make good sense for you considering they fall right into your $300 budget.

Keep in min that nick4U's link is for the cherry 60's for $129 each. The black 60's go for $149 each, which is right at the $300 mark for the 2 of them.

I'll second forsberg21's post. I just picked up the Monitor 60 towers last week, and they are rockin'. At $149 each, they're pretty hard to beat, although I actually got them for $119 each on Newegg's special that ended last week. But even still, I would have paid $149 for each one. They're phenomenal.

Energys For under $300 prolly the best speakers you will get. no offense to any fans of other speakers. But the sound is not exaggerated, neutral and warm, very easy to listen to, they have great imaging, even in 2 channel mode dialog sounds as if it is coming from the center of the room.

I really think when it is time for an upgrade for my front soundstage, I will be giving the Energy's some serious thought......

You should, They are great speakers, especially the RC (reference connosiuers) they are right up there with the Paradigm, PSBs, Monitor Audio and B&Ws. I think they get over looked, but hopefully with the way Klipsch markets (they were bought by klipsch as was Mirage) they will become more popular.

EDIT; The C series (connosiuers) that I have are that mid-level entry speakers and they are very nice too. Like the Monitor Audio Bronze or Kef iQ 5/7's

You can get 2 c-500's for left and right for $400
and the c-c100 center for $150

That's $550 for a front stage!

Ouch, my wallet pinched me in the ass again.

12g is considered excellent speaker wire and monoprice is where most members go. I attached a link of a roll of 12g speaker wire from Monoprice below for only $11.82, which is an excellent price for quaity speaker wire.

I'm not ready to upgrade yet, and not sure when the "bug" will bite me, but when the time comes (and yes, I know it will ) these are going to be one of the 3-4 manufactuers I will look and listen for. Heard a lot of really good things so far on them.
