Default Sony: Downloadable PSP titles will average around 700MB

Sony: Downloadable PSP titles will average around 700MB
by Majed Athab { Jun 25th 2009 at 2:30PM }

As PlayStation Portable morphs into the all-digital PSP Go system, many consumers might be wondering just how much space they will need to set aside for each future downloadable title. Sony representative Al de Leon spoke to Joystiq recently at an event in NYC about the storage issue, saying mosttitles will average around "600-800MB in size." This means, de Leon further added, that the PSP Go's 16GB capacity -- without any additional memory unit -- could hold up to an "average of 17-18 games." Considering the Go can handle an extra 16GB of M2 storage, the number of games could easily be doubled.

Although 700MB is the point we should be expecting most games to gravitate towards, there will still be other titles that will be far below this mark or even way above it. Smaller scale titles like Patapon 2 (which is less than 400MB) for example, could take as little as half the average footprint. Others, like the recently released PSOne classic Final Fantasy VII (takes up 1.3GB), could be nearly double this number.

Good info, Mike

In regards to Final Fantasy VII, remote play w/ the ps3 can always get around the storage requirement for that game.

I haven't bought a psp yet and there is about 20 or so psp games that look interesting to me so this news helps give a good idea about how much space I'll need.

Have you gotten remote play to work without a crap load of lag?

Yup and thats to be expected for games that required multiple discs.

Thats a good point with Remote Play as that really does address a lot of space issue concerns. Though the only downside with Remote Play is that the quality doesn't transfer over as smoothly.

That's not too bad. 16GB will hold TONS of games for all you Go'ers.

These games will download to an old PSP model still right? So if I put 16GB into my original PSP, technically I'm good to go?

Sony already has PSP games on the PSN store and has for some time. They are all functional on the current PSP models

as far as downloadable games, i've got some questions so anyone that can shed some light for me, that would be great.

i'm fairly new to this yet so if some of these questions are a little off, i'm sorry.

1: can i download games onto the computer and transfer them to my memory card??

2: or can they only be downloaded through the psp store on the psp???

3: what kinds of games will be avail. for download??

4: is it free or does there a charge per game???

thanks boys!!!

1. 90% sure yes
2. If yes to question 1 then this would be a no-brainer answer
3. A lot
4. Each price varies on the game but demos are always free

Yup until the 16GB is gone. The PSP commercial during E3 showed a game that is a download-only game called Fate/Unlimited Codes and it showed it playing on the PSP-3000 and PSP Go.

Never tried Sony's site.

I'm on the PSP version Playstation Network store and the most expensive one I see on there is $24.99 which is Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow. But however I do see ones for like $10, $15, and so on so really varies on the game and also be warned that it could go above $24.99 if the company who makes that certain game wishes it.

Once you purchased a game you can redownload it as many times as you want to your PSP system as long as you use the right Playstation Network account
