Have had my Toshiba Satellite for about 2 years now and I love it. The battery life is a bit of an issue though as I can't get more than an hour or so from it.

Congrats and enjoy!

Don't get me started on Toshiba. I got a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5816 on July 21, 2008. The laptop was for college use and this thing went to hell after two months, in September. The disc drive went bad and it had to be replaced. Then it began to overheat, this was around November. Then finally, the laptop died on February 13, which was a Friday. So I sent it in and it was discovered that the overheating fried the hard drive on it. So I take it to the shop and I get it back on March 2, 2009. The new hard drive is in and it works fine for a day and then the next night, it crashes several times. It's junk. Then it's just being a complete SOB. So this time I have actually resort to sending the laptop in Toshiba to get fixed. Good lord, I got it back and it's still giving me issues. So, the head of Case Mangment is all like; "Since it's costing us more money to replace the hard drive, we'll give you a refurbished model".

So, in mid-May, before flying out to Ohio, I got a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6860. I'm almost at the two month mark and it's giving me problems all ready. The warranty expires in August since it's a refurbished laptop.

I'm planning on getting an Acer, one of those little Netbooks or whatever they are called for like $300. I saw an HP one but the hard drive is small as hell. The Acer has 120 GB and the HP only has 16GB.

I like those Netbooks too. My next laptop will be a Netbook for sure. Although my Toshiba is only a 15", it's heaver than hell and I use it for work as well, so I'm always carrying it around along with my briefcase. It's killing my back!

Yeah, my dad has one and I've played around with it here and there and liked the feel of it. The screen size is small though, but then again the whole thing is small. He also has a Dell laptop that he bought back in like 2006. That thing is in almost perfect condition but the disc drive has been acting up on it lately. But, 2006 is considered a dinosaur.

I saw online a Dell Inspiron for $999 that has a Blu-Ray drive in it. I think I saw a Sony Vaio that has a Blu-Ray drive in it for like $900, I think.

First, congrats to the OP! I always love getting new toys.

As a note, Dell has been great with replacing faulty laptops.

My last two laptops have been replaced for free with new 3 year in home service warranties.

I went from dual Inspiron 6100 to an XPS 1730 and Studio 17. Both are fully loaded.

Congrats on the new machine!

Laptops Rule!
I own 4, 1 retired now.
~7 year old FXA63 is just too small and has had a good life

My 5 1/2 year old A Series is running the 7229 RC of Windows 7 - nicely I might add.

My 3 year old AR series is still running great with XP MCE 2005 and plays Blu-rays fine.

This 1 year old AR is running Vista Home Premium SP2 and is the beater(gets used the most often).
Doubles as my BD player for the HDTV.
All machines have Magnesium cases

Thoroughly enjoy my Windows PC laptops. No other OS/platform would do(sorry Mac or Linux guys).

Very nice OP. I like HP laptops. My wife has a single-core 17" widescreen model from 2006 running XP MC Edition. It's still running strong. I've owned a couple of other HP models over the years as well.

I like the Toshiba Satellites as well. I just happened to pick up a cheapo model (5944) for $399 that I keep in the living room. It's a 1st gen dual core model, but I'm actually surprised of the speed. It easily competes with one of my core 2 duo dekstops. So far I easily get 3 hours from the battery, though I don't take it to full drain.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I've been recommending Toshiba and Satellite models for 10 years and have never had anybody come back with any issues. My sister-in-law is still using her Satellite from 2002 and refuses to get rid of it. Obviously, though all the manuf. have their problems. I hope you get it all sorted.

Nah...Gates will still make him pay for the disk. Prolly $50. My HP is getting old. She's pretty slow. I recently threw in some ddr1 ram and it cost me $70 for a gig since it's not really made anymore. It helped it a little bit. As soon as I disconnect the power supply the computer shuts off. The battery is completely dead. It was dead just after a year of purchasing. My disk drive is also shot. It plays dvd's when it wants to..which is not regularly.

Thats because the HP has an SSD (no moving parts) but you can get the HP with a traditional hard dive. If you have any problems with the Acer i know they make you pay for shipping it to them.

And just in cause u didnt A: you know they dont have an optical drive of any kind right? B: you know they are waaaay slower then a regular laptop?

I had an HP DV9000T CTO with over 3k into upgrades last year. I had the laptop 4 months and everything failed on it. Complete lemon. HP did nothing to help fix the problem. I Finally got someone to agree to refund my money.

I then got a Macbook Pro and have been happy ever since. No problems what so ever! i use it everywhere and for everything. I just got my DVI to HDMI cable and have been messing with videos on my tv! Hope yours is problem free!! Enjoy it and keep us posted on your joy! hehe
