Default Player differences Sony Vs Panasonic Vs PS3

Hi. I own a Panasonic BD-35 player. I am pretty happy with it, but the one thing that I never understood is why can't it 'resume since last stop' type function with this unit when playing a Blu-ray (or can you?) as it is possible when playing a DVD on the same unit.
Here is something I was surprised about: Yesterday I went to a friends who has a Sony BDP series (don't remember model#) and I pressed play on it and it had loaded a Hellboy Blu-ray and IT DID resume from the last time that BD was stopped!

I can't believe the Panasonic wouldn't/couldn't have implemented this. I always seem to have to start over from the way beginning (with super long wait times) when I turn on my BD player the day after to continue watching something.

Does anyone know if the PS3 can resume play from a BD chapter? I own one, but it is currently disconnected these days (awaiting a new power bar).

Thanks.

From what I have seen, PS3 can resume play.

No BD player will resume play on BD Java authored discs. That is what bookmarking is for.

You have to press stop on the PS3 in order to continue from where you last started. But, not with all Blu's.

Yes. I think its the green or blue button. I cant remember which one. Then when you restart the movie, go to the scene selection screen, select bookmarks and then select the bookmark that you added.

Oh, ok, well, not quite a quick resume and must still get into the main movie. But it is good to know this feature. Thanks.

Yes, the ps3 can resume play on all dvds, which I am not sure the other players do, and it can resume play on any non-bd java blu-ray disc.

Is Java both 1.1 and 2.0, or just 2.0?

BD-Java has been in the profile since profile 1.0. It is just that more features are available now with the newer profiles.

The BD-Java discs with newer features are still compatible with profile 1.0 and 1.1 players, but the newer features that require 1.1 or 2.0 are grayed out or completely eliminated (the menu structure is conditionally tied to the profile of the player).
