NOOOOO! You need to find the studs and bolt the mount directly into them. Drywall will not support a tv, even a relatively light lcd. It would be a very good idea to have a good level handy too. Either a bubble type or laser type. With bit of forethought and planning, it's a pretty easy process. I've done 2 in my house and both look really good.

You also need to think about cable management. Running in the wall is best if you can do it. If not, there are a number of stick on runners that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot that are paintable to match the color of the walls. Good luck!

(BTW, I assume that your TV is in the 36 inch + range)

Read Fred's post again. If you're mounting the screws into the studs, you're fine.

If you do not mount it into the studs behind the drywall it will rip right through the drywall and fall down. You have to go into the studs behind the drywall.

I know I must sound stuoid this is all new to me so how many holes will be going into the wall all together also how easy is it to do.

By the way I know not to just do it to the drywall,With no studs.

for 52" LCD and depending on the mount it usually 4 bolts

just use a studs finder and find the edge of each studs both the right side and the left and mark the middle and that where the bolt will be in the middle of the two edge... to double check if you found the middle or studs use a small nail and poke it through.....

on a funnier note:

wow I just mounted my 42 panny plasma today. I am not handy at all but I had seen my brother in law do it before. I found the studs leveled the bracket and screwed 4 huge bolts with a washer into the studs. I have to take it back down to hide the wires, but that will be next weekend. i didn't realize that you are suppose to go directly into the centre of the stud. I know they were tough to get in though so I'm sure I got the stud 4 times. You guys think I'll be allright?

You can use good long screws to mount the bracket to the studs in the wall . Bolts are not necessary ! I have six 4" screws into 3 studs holding the bracket to the wall ! My display has been on the wall for 7-8 months now ! It is vary easy to do , Just make sure you hit the studs !!

It's a pretty easy process. You'll just need to get yourself a decent stud finder and level to make sure you get the wall plate level and mounted securely into 2 studs. If you want to run cables in the wall then check out this from monoprice for a nice, clean opening where the cables come out of the wall below the TV.

Or if you get a mount like crazyBLUE, the mount will have a level built into it.
