Default watching letterbox

I have a panasonic Plasma 800u. Nearing the end of my break in With about 100 hours of settings on low. I was wondering about image retention. When watching letterbox, can I watch movies in this format or should I zoom. I really don't like zooming all the time. Thanks.

Dont zoom. Ever. Newer plasmas dont have a problem with image retention or burn in. If you do see a problem, I think you do whats called a white wash, but Im not 100% sure. Someone who has a plasma will know.

The only time IR should ever be an issue is within the first 100-200 hours of use. After that it won't matter much what you do. You may still get some occasional and slight IR, but it won't be anything significant. I've been watching letterbox movies and gaming on mine since the day I brought it home and I've never had to take any steps to eliminate IR. Not even when it was brand new.

I have had a new panny 850U for about four months and I have been very careful about the whole IR situation. I would rather be cautious than dumb and so I have been sure to watch whatever I want but not for too long. I haven't watched two letterboxed movies in a row and try and watch something that is 1:78 or 1:85 after I watch one that is wider than that just to use all the pixels. I haven't worried at all about watching HD. I'm a channel flipper so I think that helps keep things stirred up so to speak. I haven't seen any evidence of IR doing this and I figure that I will just keep taking my time to give this great dispaly a chance to get worked in totally. better safe than sorry.

I had my Panny THZ 50' 85U model tv since 10/08. I have IR all the time when I use my PS3 while using the PS3 navaigation. Like the Time clock will be on the screen when im done using it. However it goes away after a 1min while I turn on HD content. Strange I say.
