Angry UGH! Why I hate Best Buy

Buying from Best Buy is purely a convenience thing. IF, and I repeat IF you happen to shop there the first week of a titles release. I for some reason you cant make it during the 1st week, be sure you stop at your local back and fill out the proper paper work to apply for a small loan so you can make your purchase. For the life of me, I don't know why anyone would even consider buying a blu-ray from Best Buy after the first week of release. I happen to work very close to one, so for me, its pretty convenient to stop in during the week when a new title comes out, but if for some reason I don't make it in by the end of the week, Sunday, then all bets are off. Most recent example, $ was kinda tight the week Generation Kill was released, and both Best Buy and Amazon had it for $46. Best Buy may have been a $1 or 2 more, but count that as shipping from Amazon. Well, like a fool, I stopped in BB a couple days ago to pick it up, and I nearly collapsed from shock. Luckily both me and my work partner are EMT's so If I had, I would have been in good hands. BB was actually trying to sell GK for $65! Thats not a typo.....it really was listed at $65. I stopped at the customer service desk and showed them on my iPhone the price at Walmart and Amazon. They told me they wouldn't match Amazon since they arent a brick and mortar store, but they would match Walmart, and when I thanked them, she proceeded to tell me they wouldn't. Wanna know why? Because Walmart didnt stock that title in stores and was available online only. She proceeded to ring up the blu and I just stood there in shock. When she asked for my $, I asked if she was on drugs, and yes, I did ask her this. She looked at me and wanted to know what was wrong. I said I'm not in the mood to be robbed today and told he to keep it and walked out.

This isnt the only title they do this with. Once that initial week pasts, all bets are off. Prepare to go take out that loan.
When will BB get their heads outta their asses and realize theres no reason to rob us just because we cant make it in to buy a title that first week its out. UGH. Did i mention how much I despise BB?

This belongs to off topic, or retail stores.

Sorry about your frustration with BB.

it's not the cashier's fault the store priced it so high....you seem to get ticked off a little too easy imo

Some Best Buy's are much better about price matching than others. I just started working at one and the store manager is awesome. He has even price matched from Amazon before to ensure customers were happy before leaving the store. Throughout training he made sure we knew the customers satisfaction always comes first. I'm sure not all stores are like this, it's just luck of the draw depending on where you live. Sorry for your woes, but a bluray just isn't worth getting that worked up over

If you want (mostly) great prices, Amazon seems to be the way to go

I will most likely never buy bluray at best anymore, amzon match most of the deal, and cost too much gas and time for me to get to bestbuy.

I know, your right. I wasnt really that upset with the Cashier. Its just the HUGE $20 price difference. By not buying GK from BB and ordering it from Walmart, I was able to take that $20 I didnt give BB, and buy an extra blu. LOL.

Every year when I go home to San Diego, I'll stop in Best Buy look around and then go to Frys to buy.

My trips before were always for DVDs, sometimes could find bargains, not always, but last year was my first Blu-ray experience. I was stunned at the prices they were so much higher than the prices from amazon, which has free shipping and no taxes to my home in San Diego.

I like browsing and the shopping experience... at Frys.

it's a shame BB couldn't help you out. if their stores continue to operate in ways you describe, they will start to lose a lot of their customers. hopefully the more customer-comes-first oriented stores will spread

I had the same problem with Seth McFarlands Cavalcade of Comedy. I saw it the week it came out for $16.99. After shopping around, I figured it was worth the extra 2 bucks then walmart because Id have to order it from them. I went into BB and they raised the price to $19.99. Its only 52 mins long!

I hate shopping at BB. If its not a sale price, I pass.

what's the problem i wasn't telling anyone how to behave, i clearly used the words IMO . i have a right to state my opinion on the matter, too, and the OP did not seem offended by it. Maybe you misunderstood my post and took things a little too personally

It used to seem that the prices WERE lower at release week but I think things have changed. Because BD is getting more popular, I think they are targeting the newer buyers and dropping the price a smidgen at first. But lately some titles are coming down AFTER being on the shelves for a while. Take Apocolypto, that took forever to get to 19.99.

I will still shop at BB on occasion when I get my rewards zone certs and the random price drops. Other than that the avid buyers like us should stick to Amazon. best buy doesn't need us. Thy will make it up from the same people that shop at Barnes and Noble for Blu's

They could wind up following Circuit City. They never had good prices. Even 10 years ago when I worked there I'd go elsewhere for CDs and DVDs.

yep, although they're one of the major electronics stores now with circuit city and compusa out of the way and still have decent deals every now and then, so i don't see them going anywhere anytime soon. i'm right with you though; i'll probably still buy more movies off of amazon or online sites, but i'll tell you it was quite a shocker to see how dedicated my manager was for customers. based on previous experiences at best buy, i never thought that type of dedication existed, but i'm sure it isn't very widespread.

I know if I went in BB and saw that their price was higher than Amazon, I'd be rude to the cashier too, but only if I could insult her before the onset of my impending heart attack.

I completely understand why BB generally won't match Amazon or WM.com, and am surprised that some people have stores that will. My local BB is horrible about price matching.

I tried to price match a video game there once, and they insisted on calling the store to see if they had it in stock... and once that was confirmed, they asked follow up questions to try to get the store to prove they really had the game in stock, by asking them what the pictures on the back of the box looked like... I'm not kidding).

One thing that boggles my mind is why WM won't price match WM.com, even when WM.com offers the item with free site-to-store shipping.

No one asked you to shop at BB. If BB too much for you..leave. I never shop at BB for BD. EVER! Thats why you shop for the lowest price! Believe it or not there are several book stores around here that carries used dvds and books and every other week they have these 1-2 weeks ago released BD titles for $15 a piece. Target and Walmart? I stay away.
