I have a few questions to you guys that have a PSP and a PS3. I'm going to Iraq for 6 months and I currently own a PS3. So, I think a PSP will be a pretty good idea to keep me occupied while I'm out there. I also want to use it to talk to my wife and kids while I am gone.
Before I make a purchase I have a few questions I would like to get answered. I know with the current PSP I can use Skype. But is that the only way I can use the PSP to talk to my family? I would like to know if I could chat or video chat using both systems through the PSN as well? I leave in August and the Go won't be released yet, so that is not an option. I am thinking about buying the PSP-3000 then buying a PSP GO and selling the PSP-3000. Other than better portability, bluetooth, and no UMD, is there another reason to get the PSP GO? Do you guys think that is worth the hassle or just keep the PSP-3000? ![]() Thanks for any help in advance. |

Wow, i didn't even know you could use Skype through the PSP!
![]() I guess you could send messages (and maybe have a chat room) through the PSN on both systems, but i'm not acquainted with the PSP enough to confirm. Oh also, since the PS3 can do video chat it may be possible to do it with a PSP, but again i can't confirm. |

But, I don't want to just use it remotely. I want my family and I to be able to talk through the PSN.

I don't know for certain, but I do believe that there will be the ability to do what you are seeking. If it isn't out already, there will be a camera accessory for the PSP that will be released (or IS released). That should enable some type of video chatting between the two systems.

Currently there is no way to video chat "directly" with a PSP on one end to a PS3 on the other end (with remote play you could hear and see them, but they couldnt hear or see you, and you would need a second PS3). The PS3 can only send a chat invite to another PS3. And there is no video chat functionality on the PSP. Now with the PSP Go coming out, they may add some type of video chat functionality, though I doubt it.
Can you have a PS3 and a TV of your own on base? That would probably be the cheapest way to do video chat since you already have 1 PS3 at home. Last edited by ifuwereahotdog; 07-04-2009 at 12:32 AM. Reason: clarify "chat" |
