Default A question for PS3 Owners

I am trying to find out how many people own the PS3, but are not into games?

What made you buy the PS3 over the available standalones?

Are you happy with your PS3?

I will start this off, and I am asking if you could direct as many PS3 owners to this thread as you can muster up. Thanks fellow PS3'ers.

I am not into games, but I will beat you down if you attempt to take my PS3.

What sold me was not just the price, but the features. The SACD playback was the thing that completely sold me on the PS3.

I am happy with my PS3, and will beat you down if you attempt to take my PS3. Did I say that already?? LOL

I own a PS3. I have had it for roughly a month and so far I don't have PS3 games because none so far catches my fancy. I'll wait for 1080p fluid 3D games. I might get Wipeout HD when it comes out in early 2008.
So for now I use it as a Bluray player and I'm quite glad with it so far

I have a few games, but I bought it for a blu-ray player because of it's price and the ability to play games. The only thing I would change on it is that I would like to be able to control the fan speed.

I've owned a ps3 for about 5 months now and i couln't be any happier!
I was kind of hesitant to buy ,but until my bro came over to my house and we played some blu ray movies and video games im sold! i headed out and bought one.I've always loved ps1 ps2 and well ps3 was the way to go for me and also too because i am a gamer so i understand there aren't alot of games, but i got it for Resistance fall of man wich was the first, then Warhawk and Call of duty are some i have, love those games.Another reason why i bought it was because of the upconversion dvd player built in my dvd's looks way better then the samsung i had.

Well I do and I don't use my PS3 for games...

On my main 60 GB in the family room I use for everything...then I bought another 40 GB for my bedroom which I only use for my "social agenda", if you know what I mean...

I bought it primarily because of the good reviews it received as a BD player, but the superb overall value + the option to pickup the top games every now and then made it really easy.

BD Player was the main reason I bought mine, and games were secondary to that. Plus, all of the cool extras that it has as well.

I bought mine to serve both its intended purposes, but I have 27 bd movies and just 2 ps3 games. I have RFOM and F1; I will be getting more for Xmas. As I said, I originally bought it for movies and games, but it has become primarily a movie player, and will be used for SACDs when I get a receiver which has HDMI audio input, which will be soon.

I use my PS3 only for Blu-ray - but I will get some games later- I think PS3 as Blu-ray player is most complete (with updates of course) - Anyways I enjoy it very much and would have to beat somebody down if they take it away from me - It is also very stylish too

Gaming was pretty much at the bottom of the list of reasons for my ps3 purchase. Blu-ray, media server, and hard drive storage were all above gaming. My entire cd collection is hooked up to it via external drive. Its great having my entire cd collection right there without having to search for a disk. Gaming is just a nice added bonus.

I bought it because of its versatility and with the knowledge that firmwares will keep it on the cutting edge of new tech.

While I'm a gamer, I primarily bought the PS3 for blu-ray playback (Movie-to-game ratio is currently 20:1).

I bought the PS3 because of:

- ability to play games
- wireless/networking built in
- excellent media server capabilities
- ability to run linux
- reviews re: blu-ray playback
- ability to update firmware over the 'Net
- support for profile 1.1/2.0 (in spite of official confirmation on 2.0)
- SACD playback. I have many.

The only flaw I see with the PS3 is the inability to pass the bitstream audio over HDMI (hope I'm explaining this correctly). While the PS3 can decode all but DTS-MA into multi-channel PCM, I find it's "compliance" with HDMI 1.3 a little weak.

I paid $499 for the 60GB model. At $399, this thing is a steal. But I recently heard the 40GB has no SACD capabilities. That's a big disappointment for me.

I'm a gamer and movie enthusiast, so the PS3 was a natural choice for me. I got the 60GB with the EE because I have a large library of PS2 games, so the backwards compatability was important to me. I have to say the PS3 has lived up to all my expectations, and I can't be happier.

I own 2 games and 24 movies.
I purchased primarily as a Blu Ray player. Looks great on my XBR4 tv!
I also consider myself brand loyal. Had PS and PS2. Funny thing is I played 2 dvds on my 1st PS2 and none on my second.
2 of 3 of my entertainment TV's have been Sony. (I strayed briefly with a Mits 56" LCP) I had the 4 ton flat screen Wega of yester year. Still have nightmares about moving that beast of a TV.

Part of the reason i bought a PS3 was because I played Oblivion on 360 and wanted to continue to play it. My 360 didn't agree with me on that and has since transformed itself into a short stack of PS3 games(thanks gamestop). I have half a dozen PS3 games, but more than 50 BD's movies. So you could say i got it for both. I was planning on waiting until ffXIII came out to get one, but seeing as that may never happen I decided to get one anyway.

I got my 80GB PS3 in September, primarily for movies. I wouldn't call myself a gamer, but I do enjoy playing games every now and then. I have Motorstorm (free with the PS3), Ridge Racer 7 (bought with the PS3), and Enchanted Arms (another freebie) that I've not played yet. Including those I'm waiting to receive, I have about 30 movies on Blu-ray.

I got the PS3 for its multiple uses (watching movies and playing games, etc.), and because it was the cheapest Blu-ray player I could find. My next player (for my dream home theatre where only the best will do) will probably be a Pioneer Elite.

Reasons for my purchase:
1) High quality gaming (Unlike people who own that other console, I bought it looking at the future possible games, and not so much the past and the present games. I really didn't see Ratchet & Clank coming at all, nor Drake. What a pleasant surprise)
2) High quality bluray player (Most movies aren't coming to HD-DVD)
3) High quality DVD player (Who needs a high end $1000 denon or $399 Panasonic semi-top-of-the-line DVD-S97 player anymore.)
4) Affordable launch price
5) Attractive design (touch sensors, black design to fade into the night when you turn the lights off, looks high end and sophisticated, small power cord -- all wrapped up in one neat compact and durable spaceship console)
6) Almost noiseless and bulit like a rock
7) Sony is more of an environmentally friendly company recently, using safter materials for humans and the earth
8) PS2 and PS1 playback -- because I skipped those generations and am now looking forward to Ratchet & Clank for only $16 on amazon.com should the need arise after my introduction to the series through the PS3 version
9) THE CELL processor
10) Catchy advertisements
11) Free online -- There is one major difference between the COD4 version for the PS3. We play for free. (another difference is that SOME of the characters in the 360 version are made a bit smaller in size compared to the PS3 characters.)

Really, I can only watch a movie so often. I'd watch it once and then that's it. Maybe a month or a year later, I'd watch it again. But that's it. With a game, I can play it over and over and over again and it doesn't get that boring because I get better each time and notice things that I forget to notice in the first few playthroughs.

I currently have 10 video games and about 10 to 13 movies. Just bought R&C and am on the second playthrough. Bought COD4 almost two weeks ago and still haven't played it yet because my mind is on Ratchet & Clank obsessively. Now, waiting for Uncharted and perhaps Assaasin's Creed (Jade Raymond needs to be my coworker).

============================
Other bonus reasons for my purchase:
============================

1) SACD playback
2) All that other music and video stuff
3) It's a Sony
