Greetings everyone,
I've been holding back now for quite awhile in purchasing the Harry Potter Blu-rays because I'm told the extended versions blow the theatrical versions away. I know for "Lord of the Rings", I enjoyed the extended versions much more. But I have not seen them for "Harry Potter". I own each of the five theatrical versions on DVD and tempted to purchase the normal Blu-ray sets but I don't want to own a third copy for each film if the extended version does come out. So, are there plans for an extended version release on Blu? And also how much better are the extended version of the films compared to the original theatrical version? |

Agreed. Which sucks because who wants to wait that long? What are we talking? Another 2 years? If not longer.

Yes. Typically when the movies are played on ABC Family, they play the extended editions. It's basically the movies with all the deleted scenes put back in.
I remember being disappointed when I watched the DVD version of Chamber of Secrets, because the first time I had seen it was on TV and it showed quite a few extra scenes the DVD did not contain. ... |

There are no plans to create any extended versions for the Harry Potter films. ABC and ABC Family were given special broadcast versions created to help fill out the alloted time slots.
In fact, when ABC re-aired aired Harry Potter and The Sorceror's Stone & ...The Chamber of Secrets, instead of using deleted scenes to pad out the time for these films; cast & crew interview interstituals were added. The same thing almost happened to Michael Mann's Heat. He was going to prepare a special broadcast version of NBC in 1999. However, NBC decided against it and thus trimmed the film considerably against Mann's wishes to fit the time slot. This version of the film is credited to Alan Smithee. |

I've seen these on tv numerous times and they're exactly the same as the dvd/Blu/HDDVD versions.
Someone is taking you for a long ride OP by telling you that EEs are even talked about at this time. I wouldn't mind them if they actually added to the story, unlike the LOTR EEs that threw a bunch of filmmakers garbage into the mix. The Ent Draught scene in TTT has to be one of the stupidest things in the entire trilogy, because right after that they are magically back to the same size as the other two hobbits, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee tarded. Anyway, I don't think EEs are really necessary for the HP movies, except for maybe OotP. |

I wouldn't be surprised if they actually do plan to release extended editions of all movies. For instance, they did shoot a scene with Peeves, but it was left on the cutting floor. I know they shot quite a lot of footage that ended up on the cutting floor from all of the movies except for the third. |

Then you haven't seen the ones I have, because there are (as others have pointed out) extended versions that have been on ABC Family. They're essentially the DVD versions with the deleted scenes put back in.

Target has the extended non blu ray out today. Yes, there are deleted scenes inserted. I saw them this weekend when it played on ABC family. Yes, they do make more sense in the movie than out.
