Hi Folks,

Picked this up last week and watched with my wife - anyone else seen the blu-ray? Thought the transfer was quite poor - especially in relation to something like Love Actually.. the soundtrack was great but the picture a big dissapointment..

I saw this couple days ago and I thought the transfer was actually pretty good.

i wondered if had a faulty disc.. as there was a lot of noise (sparkles) after the opening titles.. and it all just seemed a little washed out

Does anyone know if this UK release of Bridget Jones's Diary is region free and will play on North American players?

It has been tested with Region B and Region A players according to this site and plays fine.

It is also most likely Region C aswell as 99% of Universal titles are region free.

Thanks for your reply KingSimba! I saw that it was Tested on B, A playback too, however this UK release in not posted on the UK Region Free thread and there is a user review that posted in their review "It's a Region B disc, ordered from the UK."

Again, does anyone know with absolute certainty this is a region-free disc that will indeed play on a North American player?

Yep. I own it and I live in America, with a region-locked player. It plays fine, it's regionless.

A UHD was issued in France a few years back. It has the word dubbed over with "cow." That's the international version, which is what the UK would get too.

The only way to get the undubbed word would be a US UHD, but the US got an entirely different cut of the film, so I think that's unlikely.

It's a shame, because it's a funny moment and an important bit of characterization that informs the choice Bridget's mom makes immediately afterward.
