Default 48Hz 'flicker'...such a bad thing?

Being an owner of a [dead] 800u set, I know all about the 'flicker' in 24p mode. Being the [future] owner of a V10, I am anxious for the 96Hz upgrade.

But last week, I did something I haven't done in a LOOONG time - I went to watch a movie @ the theater (The Hangover...great, funny flick), and the overall cinema experience from the projector is exactly like the 800u in flicker mode. Bright scenes had the same flicker.

So...is there truly anything wrong with the 'flicker', or is Panasonic really trying to stay close to the cinema experience? I mean, they actually left 48Hz as an available rate in the V10, hinting that they are fine with the flicker.

And it is just like being @ the movies...

Depends on the viewer really, however the problem is more noticable when the display is very bright and on smaller screens. I have notice mild flicker during 24p playback on my display, but I'm not bothered by that since it still preserves the film look of the content and it is MILD, however some displays still preserve the film look without the flicker. I heard the V10 series gets rid of the flicker people crticized the previous model.

Yeah, I read the same...and it does so by doubling the refresh rate to 96Hz. Thing is, they left the 48Hz option available, which makes me think maybe the 'flicker' is a true-to-cinema by-product that Panasonic wanted to remain.

Definitely. I've been describing the flicker as cinematic for over a year...but it's good of Panny to have added the 96Hz as well for those that don't want the cinematic look.

I notice the flicker just about every time I'm at the cinema.

Default No Flicker

I personally not a fan of flicker, which is why I held out for the V10. I really don't care if it flickers in the theater, it seems more distracting at home to me. Everyone has their preference. No flicker for me.

I have the 850u model and really don't notice much of a flicker at all. I also recently was at the theater and felt it had a more significant flicker than my set does.

But I have to agree that Panny has always described it as intentional and that it was to reproduce the cinematic feel.
