Default Blu-ray outputs and HDTV questions

Hi,
I've started reading up on Blu-ray (mainly due to its inclusion in the Playstation 3) and I have some questions I was hoping someone could answer.

First, is Blu-ray only going to be playable for movie playback via HDMI? I know the Playstation 3 plans to use this as an output option (as well as other sources), but would it be the only source that you could watch movies from? Would HDMI to DVI work or is something lost in this situation :? I was reading HDMI was due to knew security issues.
I've read some places suggesting DVI would work or an HDMI to DVI would work, but others say the opposite. I was hoping someone could verify this

Second, I'm looking to invest in my first HDTV set. Basically I've decided to go with an RPCRT. Granted, it has its limitations but from what I've seen every kind of HDTV you can buy does :? I've been looking at a 47" Samsung, which supports 1080i. I just wish to clarify Blu-ray will display at 1080i as well as other resolutions? It'd be really disappointing to find out down the road that my HDTV set isn't useful for any new technology in the upcoming future.

If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations for HDTVs around the 1000-1500$ price range I'd gladly like to hear those too Mainly the price of the above set is what has me looking at it. Having something thats significantly larger than my current TV(27") in an 'affordable' price range that *hopefully* supports what I need it to is what I was looking for.

Thanks for your time and any help you can provide.
