There was only 1 available in my region....I wanted it badly and still can probably get it....but the BB store in Connecticut ( I live in NJ) was giving me all kinds of hurdles to jump through....so I figure I will get the 950 since it rated close to the Kuro and has all the bells and whistles as well..

I own it and it is one kick-@$$ set. You will not be sorry, so long as you get used to some blooming.

$3000 is a great price for it, but make you sure you get a newer build version. Apparently the sets manufactured before September-ish 2008 have an issue with blacks get so dark details in shadows/dark areas are lost.

I believe Samsung will replace the dimming board and update the firmware anyways, but just avoid the hassle completely and get a newer set.

This 55A950 LCD has really impressed me, but has anybody been able to compare it to the 55B8000 LED model? im wondering if they have the same picture processing inside them or if different which one produces a sharper picture with HD (i think blue ray they would be the same).

They both have great image quality. Unlike the B8000, the A950 suffers from blooming, which is inherent in local-dimming LEDs.

I saw a 55B8000 playing Kung Fu Panda in Best Buy yesterday and I must say the image was spectacular besides a little black crush. Though, I would still give the nod to the 950 series as I feel the picture quality is superior to the B8000.

That description comes off as tie when you saythe 950 suffers from blooming but the 8000 doesnt. the 8000 has slight black crush, but the 950 has superior pq. im kind looking to hear about SPECIFIC DIFFERENCES in them. what does the 950 do BETTER than the 8000 (vice versa). When I saw them they were in two different rooms and BB keeps playing computerized cartoon loops on them, and it was hard to tell.

another question about the judder control when in the film mode or cinema (amp) menu. the 8000 has a range (1-10) whereas the 950 has (low/med/hi), which unit has more of the 3D look to it, or are they both the same.

Personally I don't notice blooming at all, but that could just be me. Don't know about your other choice, I would say do some online research on the two.

I got mine last Thursday night @ BB for $3300. This TV rocks. I will miss my CraigR calibrated Mitsu RPTV, but probably not for long.

I just stopped at BB on my way home to pick up some movies and guess what? BB dropped the price of the LN55A950 to $2499. SCORE! I gladly took my $840 back!

Default Ok, guys you have convinced me.

I am on vacation now and will get the 950. I am sure I can talk my guy down to 2100 if I promise to buy my next one from him...which I will on Black Friday....ok...I am trusting you guys...the research does support your assertions and my was willing to shell out 3500 for the 60 inch Kuro 151....I hope I am making the right decision.

Well with 950's pricing being on closeout and saving $1000 your not going to find a 60" 151 Elite anywhere for $2499. And with many ppl out there comparing the two, that should say something. I too was head strong for getting the Elite long before I even knew about the 950. in fact I wasnt even considering at Samsungs period! I would read about Pioneer owners saying oh you gotta see it in its full potential, store lighting, not in a home a environment, not calibrated, and on and on does do it justice. WELL in my mind after seeing both tv's in about 12 different places, it should show its potential somewhere. Ive seen both many times, and yes, yes, yes, the Pioneer does have a very nice picture but the Pioneer never seemed to pull me like a magnet the way the 950 did. The crisp sharp image married to that color pop, and its interpolation ability (some like it some dont) just kept me mezmorized to the point I would be home thinking about what I saw in the store days later. But since the price drop now being less that half the price of what I was seeing 151's going for that made it a no brainer for me.

Hey. that was helpful....I think the advantage is on the margin and not markedly better to justify the price difference....I will go to BB today and negotiate...I think it can get another 300 off..that would really make it a no-brainer and once I add my Apple TV...I may never leave the house since they will add bluray....life is too damn good I have no idea what I am going to do...
