I have my 60GB PS3 connected to my TV with HDMI, and to an old Yamaha receiver with an optical cable for surround sound. This setup works fine 95% of the time, but for some games and movies, I get video but no sound. When it works normally, the little display on the receiver says "DVD OPT". During the times when I get no sound, the "OPT" changes to "1 + 1".
The games that this problem happens with are Infamous and Saints Row 2, and the movie that it happens with is Dr. No. The Bond movies I have appear to be Canadian versions, but I'm not sure if this is an issue. I can provide pictures if necessary. Hopefully you guys can help. ![]() |

I know that Infamous and the Bond movies are in DTS (not positive though if the Canada release is different). Does your receiver decode DTS? I know that some of the first Yamaha 5.1 receivers were DD only, like the DSP-A3090. A model# on your Yamaha would help us out.

Looks like that was it, no DTS support on the AVR 45. It does say it supports PCM so you can try changing the PS3 to output from "Bitstream" to "Linear PCM" in the A/V settings pop-up (Green/Triangle button while media is playing) or Settings/Video Settings. This will enable the PS3 to do the audio decoding and pass the signal as PCM which the receiver should accept. You should also be able to just leave it on this setting, however I'm not positive that the unit supports multi-ch PCM. If it doesn't, you'll lose 5.1 capability from 5.1 encoded media sources, so you'll have to toggle back & forth between Bitstream & PCM. I'm also not positive if this will work for DTS games since this is an A/V setting. Let us know how it works out.

Ok... while the Blu-ray movies are playing fine now, I downloaded the demo of Red Faction Guerilla and when I played it, it gave me the same problems as Infamous. The display on my receiver becomes "DVD 1 + 1" and I can not hear sound. This starts happening when I get to the main menu, meaning the intro cinematic to the game has sound but everything after that does not. I already tried toggling between bitstream and linear PCM, and this doesn't fix it.

I found some info that RF Guerilla is DTS. So, it sounds like it doesn't work for DTS games then. As I mentioned, it is an A/V setting. Perhaps someone who has direct experience with this can chime in and confirm since I'm really just shooting in the dark here, but it sounds like this is the issue. You can also maybe check in the Sound Settings that DTS is enabled, but I'm not positive that'll do anything for games. Otherwise, if you have the budget you should maybe consider a new receiver.
