My first HD display was A 42" HP PLASMA & it had IR about 30 min. into turning it on . Would last about 15 to 25 min. then be gone for the entire time the TV was on ! I did not let this bother me !! I do not game & I would use the white wash A few times A week ! The TV had A beautiful picture . I had the chance to upgrade so that is the only reason I do not have that TV still !!

IR retention to plasma is like motion blur to LCD. each tech has it's pros and cons. IR is nothing to worry about, it is just the way the technology works. you can cut down on it by turning down your contrast levels.

Damn, you got image retention on a Panasoinc? I've never seen that happen, even on max settings. When I worked at Circuit City, we had a Blu-ray playing on a TH46PZ85U 24/7 and it never got image retention (it was a WB disc and it would go to the extras menu after the movie ended). I've seen plenty of IR on Samsungs and LG's but never Panasonic.

I play games for 3-4 hours. After I'm done, if i go to a completely black screen i can see a faint image of the huds from a few inches away from the tv. After 10mins or less of regular fullscreen programing i can go to the black screen and it's all gone.

I watch a lot of sports also with score boards on the screen for hours at a time and never noticed anything after i change channels. Only when on a completely black (no signal) screen can i see a faint image of it and it disappears quickly after changing channels and viewing something different for a few minutes.

You might have a defective set or you have your contrast/brightness set way too high and the anti IR orbiter off maybe?

Please list your current settings and model of your tv. Tell us what you are watching that is causing IR to occur.

Sounds like a major pain in the butt. So much for all that talk about Panasonic plasmas being completely perfect in every way, with no drawbacks whatsoever.

You'll always get image retention on a plasma. I've had mine for about the same amount of time and I get IR after watching letterbox films, but it goes away after a few minutes and is not noticeable.

Set your picture mode to "cinema" and turn the contrast down to around 60-65. Keep the pixel orbiter on too. This will help if it bugs you that much, but really it's not a defect or a problem with the set. Don't be too anal retentive. Nothing's perfect.

How odd, almost 4 days and the OP never replied to this thread.

Most plasma owners make it sound like and claim all the time that IR is a thing of the past and a non issue.. that is where people get this idea that if they buy a quality plasma they won't have any problems to worry about.

think you are getting confused. IR is commom place on Plasma's just the way the tvs work that causes it, now burn in is a thing of the past (unless you are crazy and leave the tv on for 15 + hours on cnn) IR is nothing to worry about.

IR is temporary and usually goes away after a minute or two of either running the white bar or just watching a movie or another TV show.

Now that the kids are home, the TV seems to be set to Cartoon Network the entire day. I've noticed the CN logo on my plasma when I either change to Blu-ray or turn the channel. It NEVER stays for more than a minute or so. I haven't checked, but I would assume that I am between 800 and 1000 hours on my Panny TV.

Burn-in, on the other hand, is usually always permanent and is caused, like brett said, having the image displayed for a very long time (1+ day or so).

I've read some of the OP posts and he's admitted that he has the brightness level higher than it should be (because he has bad eye sight) and that he plays games for LONG periods of time ("all day" he said in one post).

I play PS3 games for hours at a time fairly regularly. I have only seen IR a couple of times. I wish my Samsung had a "white screen" button. As it is, when I'm pausing for 10 minutes or so I have to scroll through the TV's burn-in protection menu to get to it.

oooooooo glad to see you know so much about me.

maybe my brightness is up too high, but i have it set to what i think looks best. it gets IR always, no matter what. if a logo goes up for a couple seconds then a black screen, you see outline of the logo still there.
