Default Sony BDPS-360 and Onkyo 606 setup questions

My BDPS-300 recently bit the dust so I have ordered a Sony BDPS-360 to replace it. I am very much a novice at this whole audio game so please bear with me.

What settings should I use on my player and receiver? Since I don't plan at this time to use the BD live or bonus view features I really don't need a external memory stick, do I ? If I go ahead and buy one in case I later change my mind I won't be doing anything wrong by having it already in the player, will I ? 5.1 Polk speaker system.

Set the player to DIRECT and the receiver to PMC - is this correct ? Thanks for your help.

You wouldn't need a memory stick right away, but it wouldn't hurt to have it either. You won't be doing anything wrong.

On how you setup the player/receiver is completely up to you. With the player you have, you can set it up two ways. You can either set the audio output as Linear PCM or as Bitstream. With PCM, your player will decode the audio and send it to your receiver. With bitstream, your player will send the signal to your receiver and the receiver will do the decoding as well as show the TrueHD or Master Audio logo when watching a movie. You wouldn't have to set your receiver to PCM because it knows what signal type is coming in.

Thanks very much for the reply. I was planning on buying an S350 from my local Wal-Mart that had been marked down to $200. When I went on-line this morning to read up on it I visited Amazon and saw the S360 advertised for $217 with free shipping (Amazon Prime) and no taxes. It was enough to make me jump quicker than I had planned. I usually try to figure all these things out before I buy.

Just wanted to say I received my 360 by UPS today. Hooked it up and ran the easy set-up and ZAP, great picture and sound. Used AVP-Requiem for a demo. The soundtrack, esp. bass, rocks on that Blu.
