Maximum PC has a bunch of spy shots from the still-being-set-up Comic-Con show floor, most of which isn’t too interesting (boxes being unpacked, displays being assembled). The one that caught my attention is this advertisement for the Screen Gems film Legion. The image of an angel holding a knife and a gun is very striking.

This film has basically gone under my radar. Most everyone I know (aside from some of the horror site writers) were shocked to hear that it was being bundled with District 9 at the Sony panel because, well, most people hadn’t ever heard of the film before. Here is the official synopsis from the Comic-Con schedule:

When the last angel falls, the fight for mankind begins. Having lost faith in the human race, a legion of angels descend to Earth to bring about the Apocalypse. Humanity’s only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner and the Archangel Michael himself (Paul Bettany). Appearing on stage: Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, The DaVinci Code), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Supernatural), Tyrese Gibson (Transformers, Death Race), Doug Jones (Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Abe Sapien in Hellboy), and director Scott Stewart (helming his first feature film after working on VFX for Sin City, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, and Iron Man, among many others). From Screen Gems.

Legion is currently scheduled to hit theaters on January 22nd 2010.

Finally an update on this movie, can't wait to see this! I think Kevin Durand will be pretty cool as the angel Gabriel. I'm not too excited about seeing another Dennis Quaid movie, but I still like him a lot as an actor.

I'll see it. But, it uses some generic CGI sequences(The ice cream man in the beginning and the cop shaky head effect about 2 minutes in). That kind of made it look lame. I would hope it is better than that trailer shows.

trailer looks pretty cool. But I think it gave away too much, don't know if its going to end up a good movie after all. but still i will check it out.

Pre-empting this comment with the awareness that religious discussion is closely monitored on these forums, altho it is permitted when the context of the film has religious themes.

That said...

Pfft. I'm all for creative interpretations on traditional or established concepts, but an angel with a gun? One angel slaughtered 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night. The gun is wholly unnecessary, and makes him look like a pansy. Considering there are "myriads upon myriads of angels", according to scripture, if/when a war does break out with demons (ie. fallen angels) where is the logic in sending one angel to fight them, except as a weak plot device for what looks to be a mediocre horror film?

I like this cast, but... I'll pass.

the movie actually reminds of that Christopher Walken movie. there are similarities. but like said above the whole thing about an angel with a gun, it doesn't make sense, but its a movie.

Glad there's finally a trailer, looks sick. But I think they showed one or two of the main characters die,
[Show spoiler]Dennis Quaid upside down on the cross exploding?
which kinda irks me. Oh well, can't wait to see this.

And yeah I agree Sylin, it would be pretty sweet if he fought the Demons without a gun, but it's still kinda cool. Looks like the fight with Gabriel is mono y mono

Thats what my problem is with the trailer. I think IMO it showed too much for the trailer.

WOW. That looks quirky as anything I've ever seen. One heck of an eclectic cast too.

Angels wielding rocket launchers? I'm in.

+1 I'm really starting to like that actor from Inkheart. Dennis Quaid is really surprising me with his roles recently.

I just might see this in teaters. Thanks ed4246!
