Default Vaio FZ180 Drive

Hi, I will be visiting America (I live in England) next week, and will be purchasing the FZ180 notebook in New York.

Will the Blu-Ray Drive in the laptop play commercial blu-ray movies from the England Region.

Thanks alot.

It depends on the movie. If it is region free, then yes, if it isnt then no. There should be a thread on this forum stating which films are region free. Just do a search for "region".

Don't PC Blu-ray players allow a certain number of region switches before locking down permanently to the last one chosen like PC DVD players?

Hi Jorg, is there a way of locking my drive to my region (England region) without just playing movies?

Can't I just use some software?

Thanks,

pottageb

Actually, many drives don't have a limit on how many times you can change the region, but it is specific to certain manufacturers. I would contact Sony tech support prior to buying that laptop, so that way you can have a piece of mind regarding making a sound purchase.

I believe Pioneer is notorious for only being able to do it 5 times before locking it in, but I never had that issue with other brands, including Sony. But, as I've stated it before, just check with them before you buy.

*HERE* the BD region seems to be software specific.
PowerDVD says I have 3 changes left, WinDVD BD says I have 2 changes left.

The drive itself(Windows?) says 4 region changes left.

No idea.

Get the laptop. When you get home, set the software to your region and forget about it.

Remember, you *CAN* get AnyDVD HD and let it take care of all the worries of region coding...

DVD regions are handled in the drive and Blu-ray regions in the player software:
