Default Stereo Equalizers???

I feel really stupid asking this. I haven't really kept up with audio equipment over the years. I've noticed that you don't see too many equalizers any more and I am kind of curious as to why?

I like being able to control bass and treble. Most recievers have presets and I'm not really very happy with them. I'm curious if you can even hook up an equalizer to a modern reciever due to hdmi cables carrying both audio and video. Or if it would even be worth it. I also no longer see reverb options on recievers either. I know I'm showing my age here, but I really am curious about this.

That is because modern A/V receivers have built-in calibration programs that do basic equalization. Furthermore, for two-channel stereo, you could easily connect a two-channel equalizer. It is not so easy to connect a multi-channel external equalizer to 7.1 receivers. Multi-channel equalizers are available, but they are very expensive.

Thanks for the replies. I guess an equilizer isn't necessary, but the couple of recievers I have looked at didn't have control knobs for bass and treble. Now that I have a blu-ray player and an HDTV, I'm going to want to update my sound system and I like being able to adjust the audio levels.
