Default Trophies VS Achievements

Which system do you prefer, Trophies or Achievements?
Sorry if this has been asked before. Just want to know what people think who have both consoles.

I think Microsoft did a better job, but when you're charging for the service that is too be expected.

I've played a lot more games with achievements, so I'm more used to that system.

Honestly, what's the difference? You do something within a game and you get a little notification on your screen that you've unlocked a certain achievement or trophy that goes into your profile's database. I don't see how one can be all that different or even preferred over the other. They're the same freaking thing, just different names.

Agreed.
Sony pretty much ripped off the achievement idea from MS. Not that I really care though. I usually play games for the game. My favorite games on the ps3 are soul calibur 4 & oblivion which don't have trophies.

I like the achievements a bit more, since they're assigned point values and you can say, "I have XX points for this game," and they're added up for the gamer score total. Feels a bit more cohesive. If you're "competing" against a friend, saying "I have XX points" is better than scrolling through and saying I have this one and this one and this one and this one . . .

+1

its the same thing, you either have gamer points, or a level with a percentage complete towards the next level, if there is something else to achievements, then it might be different, but i dont have a 360, so they seem pretty much the same from what i know about it

I like the trophies better for the same reason. When comparing overall scores, I like to compare based on completion of a game and not how many points a person has.

Achievements gives you simply a number, a person can get 90% of the easy achievements in a LOT of games and score higher then a person who completes the tough achievements on a game. This is more evident on the trophy system where you see clearly how many silver/gold/platinum a person has compared to bronze. I always found the Olympic style ranking of trophies to be much better then simply whoever has more points wins. (Ie: first place has the most platinums, then the most golds, etc)

But I should point out that I don't have a 360 so I have very little experience using their achievement system.

I like the achievements better for one reason and maybe sony can quick fix this but the interface every time you want to look at the trophies it has to load or find it instead of just popping up.

Also I like the layout of them better.

But mostly all things sony could quickly fix I'm sure.

But having both adds a little extra to gaming and thats a good thing.

Nothing, Its just nicer to have a score as opposed to , Bronze gold.silver.platinum. and easier to compare points vs ammounts of trophy types

And the things that add value to the achievements, interface, and points could be fixed quite easy.

Make platinum worth 100, gold worth 25, silver 15, and bronze 10. Then polish out the interface to make it pop up and load with a touch of the button and boom there wouldn't be a difference between the two

I would hope they'd consider doing something like that

So do trophies, you get a trophy level assigned to you. The higher it is, the more trophies you have. Works the same way.

EDIT: And each trophy type has a different point rating assigned to it. Gold trophies will level you up faster then Silver or Bronze for example.

aside from the loading times, i like the way PSN does it with levels, especially if they are in the future going to use those levels in home like i had heard on this site

Yes, But an actual Total number is just easier and better than 4 differnt levels of trophies.
