no one will hate you. You'll just get told to search...

you get trophies for doing things in games. They are just rewards for completing a mission or doing a task.

They're just little medals you earn in various games. They don't really "do" anything right now, aside from bumping up the (meaningless but fun) PlayStation Level on your PSN Profile card. The more valuable the trophy (bronze, silver, gold, platinum), the more "experience points" you get toward your PSN Level.

It's just a fun little measuring stick to see how avid a gamer you and your acquaintances online are. You can also see what your friends online have as far as trophies (and compare them against your own).

I personally don't like trophies. I feel they've actually ruined some games (although, usually only temporarily).

The "people will hate me thing" was a sarcastic comment. I've seen what happens when people don't search for things. Thanks for the information.

I am very unfamiliar with the PSN. I have not really ever used it. Granted, i only have 2 games so far, MGS4 and R:FOM.

Trophies can also get you to play games on harder difficulty settings. The only reason I would play Uncharted on the 'crushing' setting is to get the gold and platinum trophies (going to have to play it on hard first though ).

There's also talk that Trophies can be used in Home to possibly buy stuff (assuming Home is ever released obviously).

i LOVE trophies. they actually add to your investment. after you beat the game you got small tasks to do. as strange as some might be (kill yourself with your own air mines in Warhawk?) but its something to do lol. adds to the investment i say! BRING ON THE TROPHIES!!!

I will never see it as anything but pulling down ones shorts and comparing sizes... or as some older employees call it, a pissing contest..

Regardless if it makes the masses happy then it is good... because if the masses are happy the more ps3 games are sold thus the more ps3 games sold the better Sony is off.

That is the fragile thinking process ive created for me to accept there existence and not feel threatened by them so please do not pull the small fragile string of flawed logic.

Sorry if you already know, but if you are unaware, you can view each trophy that needs to be collected under 'Trophy Collection' in the game menu on the XMB. Here it give you a list of all trophies that you have to collect for all games that you have game data installed for on your system (not all game are trophy compatible)

Warhawk - one of my favorite games - almost a year later they get trophies - lots of people try out the game, but it's only to get the trophies. Now, I don't mind if someone actually gets the game and plays it, but half the time someone would be driving the dropship around saying, "Everyone get in so we can get the trophy", while were lose the match. Or some punch is sitting around with a wrench chasing vehicles for his "Destroy a vehicle with a wrench" trophy. (At least you did it legit and didn't just buy the game and get a second controller and cheat like many others).

Trophy hunters can suck the life out of these games. Often, they don't even truly enjoy the game and add anything to the other players around them.

I kept getting hounded by PMs with people wanting to join the Warhawk Clan but were mainly trying to get with people to get trophies. We did set up games to help get some of the dumber trophies (but these were all people who played before and played even when we did nothing to do with trophies because they "enjoyed" the actual game itself.)

Usually it's the online portions that get ruined cause you have people doing nothing but trophy hunting.

Another example is Burnout. Again, this pertains more to the online portion. I met up with people - they wanted to do things to get trophies. We spent the whole night doing things towards trophies - a few hours later everyone went to bed and I thought to myself, "D@mn, I never even got to race anyone the entire time".

People don't "play the game" anymore - they work on trophies.

Trophies are not bad - but when it comes to online play, it can really take the fun out of the game.

'Twitch

Well said, that reflects some of my previous worries very well.

Ive ran into this from time to time, sometimes the op is seeking trophies and if you do something to jeopardized that you are kicked sometimes finding a good game on war hawk is very hard. And ive seen players who's only goal is to get trophy's and they will sacrifice the team to get it...

I think for online games they should not list the requirements to get them, in fact when you earn them still not tell you what you needed to do to earn them kinda like linger's trophy's.

I love trophies, but am much more fond of single player trophies than I am of online/multiplayer trophies for the above reasons.
