I have an AirPort Express and iPhone also. On a recent trip I brought it with me to use both at a relative's house and at a hotel. As it turned out, I didn't need it at the hotel. They had WiFi for free. Check the hotel web site to see if they have free WiFi. Since most of their business is usually business travelers, competition among hoteliers has made this pretty standard for most hotels. If not, see if there are any other hotels in the area that do have it. Download a free WiFi finder App from the App Store. Even some Airports (the airplane kind) have free WiFi.
At home I have a cable modem set up for DHCP. I connected the AirPort Express to the wired hub and use it for my iPhone, my son's MacBook and his iPod Touch. When I took the AirPort Express on the road, I didn't need to change the settings at all. Since all wired hotel internet connections will be using DHCP, you shouldn't need to change anything. The AirPort Express keeps all settings in static memory, so it saves all settings indefinitely, even with the power disconnected. Just set your AirPort Express for DHCP (automatically assign an IP address). Connections are standard RJ-45 Ethernet. Lastly, make sure you have a SIM card for your phone if you plan on using the phone or wireless data services. Set your world clock. Have a safe trip! Last edited by DIY_HD; 07-23-2009 at 11:01 PM. |
