Default just got a hitachi p50x902

Hi everyone. Its my first post here. I just finished hooking it up. so far i'm really impressed with this set. i'm new to plasma but I like it a lot more then the Samsung LN52B750 LCD my brothers and I bought for our mom two weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, that LCD is pretty good but something about this plasma just blows me away. I can't wait till its broken in so I can fool about with the settings more. if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you. cheers!

congrats on the purchase. After your break in period is done I would highly recommend either getting Digital Video Essentials on Blu-ray or having an ISF Tech come out and do the calibration.

I would usually say approximately 100hrs of use. The best bet is to set the TV off of it's "vivid" or "dynamic" picture mode and put all the setting for contrast, brightness, etc in the middle for the time being.

a pal of mine just told me that he could get me a pro-111fd for $2700 brand new. now that makes me think cause that would only cost $1300 more. I dont know what to do. oh well, i have 30 days with the hitachi before I make up my mind.

Great choice in HDTV. Hitachi is such an under rated brand. Don't worry about break in, it's all mumbo jumbo, just enjoy your new display!

Its the blacks! I've seen that TV myself and its pretty amazing. Its not quite Pioneer blacks, but its very close. Congrats! You'll be loving that set for quite some time...unless you go back for the Kuro of course.

If it's a ghosting type effect it goes away in a few hours, mine did the same thing.

pics of the line bleeding or of the set in general? my little brother borrowed my DSLR cause he went to chicago but once he gets back on thursday i can try to post some pics. also, while watching Planet Earth last night, i noticed that some scenes looked brilliant while others just looked meh. is that cause of the way that particular scene was shot or is it the tv? i was watching it on the Xbox HD DVD drive if that helps. At 1080i with component cables.

That's just the way the movie is, even on blu-ray. As for the "bleeding" I'm positive it's just the ghosting effect I mentioned above, it goes away once the phosphor has been worn out a bit.

Would that not constitute being a "break in" period for the phosphors to settle? So after that point wouldn't it be the best time to then do the calibration?

Negative, you have to see it to understand, it in no way effects performance of the TV. Waiting 100 hours to enjoy your TV is just depriving yourself of 100 hours of the TV's life. Even after 100 hours if your TV has changed so drastically that it would mess up a calibration, you have something seriously wrong.

How do you deprive yourself if you're just watching it during that 100 hours? I was never suggesting just letting the TV go while you're not watching it. Being that most plasmas have an average half-life of 60,000 hours 100 hours is really a small fraction of that time.

Well that's 100 hours of your TV not being calibrated, hence not operating at it's full potential, what would you call it?

I almost returned my P50X902 because of the line bleed issue.... but most plasmas have this problem.. It's there mostly when there are horizontal lines behind a person or other frontal object... I try not to pay attention to it and haven't seen this too much with a strong HD signal or Blu ray...
