Thumbs up I love the Durability of the Discs

Man I love how durable the discs are. Very hard to scratch. Best thing ever.

I had a spare Title with just DD sound I was willing to sacrifice it in order to show some people just how durably they are.

I took the disc out & put it back in the case very roughly 8-10 times. And not one scratch.

Amazing!!!

Its Great to be Blu!!!!

Yet a big reason Blu-ray is higher priced on Netflix is because the discs supposedly scratch and break too easily.

Well the people who break them with the Netflix either A. do it on purpose just to see how much it takes to break a Blu-ray disc, B. they let their kids play with them, C. they just don't care since it doesn't belong to them, D. dog played with it, E. bad shipment, F. a bitter *please insert dead disc movie format that didn't stand a chance against Blu-ray* owner ran over the disc with his/her truck, and I could keep going on of how many reasons why Netflix Blu-rays could get scratched or broken.

I have well over 300 bds, and most of them I have bought used, it was not until last week that I came across the first scratched one I have ever seen. BTW that was from movie stop. They gave me a hard time about exchanging it, but after they did I vowed never to go there again. Not to had a promis as most of their prices are more for used than Amazon is for new.

They may be durable but I still don't loan them out, no one else in my family takes care of movies like I do.

For me it's more like if I loan someone anything I may as well kiss it goodbye because that person is just going to "forget" to bring it back to me and then that same excuse gets used over and over again until I get it back myself.

Wolverine & Moonphase. I agree 100%.

I keep my entire DVD & Blu collection to my self. Only way to keep them scratch free. Almost everyone I know are clueless when handling DVDs.

Even after yrs some of my DVDs have built up small scratches. I cant see my Blu-rays ever getting scratched.

I let my brother borrow my PS3 and blu's for a month one time. I know how he is with his dvds (always leaving them out of the case sitting on a counter, stacked onto each other) Anyway his are usually scratched with all sorts of crud on them. I told him not to treat mine that way, to always put them back in the case. Well, when I got my stuff back I wasn't too happy. I had to go and wipe every disc down. All had fingerprints on them, and some crud. Luckily they were blu-rays and not dvds, they would have been all jacked up. Never again does he borrow them.

I don't get it. Most of the discs in my brand-new BSG box set have light surface scratches all over them! Amazon is sending me a replacement set.

Most of my BD's have been bought used as well and none of them have any scratches on them. The only person I would let borrow my BD's are my girlfriend, though she doesn't have a player, I need to change this.

Maybe the Discs vary?

The Title was Superman Returns. I was pretty rough on it. No Scratches.

What can I say. Man of Steel don't scratch

I agree with this thread, the anti-scratch resistance is helping since I've only had once or twice issues reading blu-ray discs. I rent my movies from Blockbuster. I use to rent HD-DVD at the time and 30% of the discs I've rented had issues reading on my XBOX 360 HD-DVD add-on. I thought maybe my HD-DVD player is just some cheap crap that Toshiba put together for Microsoft... So then I tried it at my GF's brother-in-laws house which he has the HD-DVD stand-alone player, tried it on his and still the same results and his HD-DVD player locked up! Had to unplug and plug it back in for it to reset but it just wouldn't play the damn thing... Also there was a time that I had issues reading a brand new HD-DVD disc that I had bought. Disc read error is a thing of the past since I got rid of all my HD-DVD stuff and 90% of my DVDs... I've been completely satisfied in how Blu-ray disc has been playing and glad they won the format! Durability was just one of the many reason why I love Blu-ray over DVD/HD-DVD.

Strange and interesting. Are they saying blu-ray disks are less durable in comparison to DVD?

For me, lending blurays is like lending money, and we all know what happens when you lend money to anyone... you never get it back. I've spent way too much money on my bluray players and movies to let anyone borrow them. No one is going to take care of my property the way that I do, so I don't lend anything to anyone...

My mother always told me "Neither a borrower nor a lender be"... Words to live by...

i hear that- i've learned the hard way over the years that lending movies to people, whether it's people in your dorm, friends, or family seldom ends well, with discs hardly ever returned in the condition in which they were lent. One tip I have for lending discs is to use a spare blu box or container rather than the original.. i usually use an old dvd case that i've already replaced on Blu. Maybe i'm OCD but I can never appreciate something as much if it's been damaged (as vain as that may sound). The worst part is the inevitable blank stare and "Why does it matter if the box is damaged?" response you're sure to receive.

I dont let anyone borrow any of my stuff, Im very paranoid when it comes to lending my $60 games and $30 movies. But I as well am glad for the scratch resistant coating the discs receive, very nice.

Blu ray disks are tough to scratch but a finger print will have the disk freezing.

This is not too bad. Unless it is scratched, it can be cleaned - should be careful not to scratch while cleaning finger prints.
