Default Costco has Sony 301.

I have not personally looked yet, but there are reports from others that Costco has the s-300 with their own model number of 301 for around 448.00 FYI.

Just got back from my local Costco (Arundel Mills in suburban Baltimore). They had the BDP-S301s in stock. Picked up one for $449.99 ($472.49 including Maryland 5% sales tax). And they did have the 5 free BD offer announcement posted prominently this morning.

In the DVD section they had cleared out an area in the shelves large enough to lay in a supply of S301s 3 player boxes wide. The initial supply of BDP-S301s is SUBSTANTIALLY more than the initial supply of Toshiba HD-A2s at this store when the Toshibas were 1st stocked. Sitting on the shelves, they still had the 3 HD-A2s that they had when I went to the store last weekend. And it was funny to see how they moved these remaining A2s from having their own dedicated shelf area and just put them in amongst a bunch of $39 Toshiba "upconverting" DVD players. Kinda treating them like last week's garbage.

This puppy will go in our bedroom to make my wife happy. Our PS3 will remain our "main" Blu-ray player down in the family room.

I might have to go and buy a new BD player soon. This deal is too good to pass up and not take advantage of it.

The 301 has an HDMI cable in the box.

I just bought the Sony BDP-S301s this morning at Costco (Portland, OR). This is my first BD player so I'm very happy. There is no sales tax in Oregon which is nice. I plan on selling all five free BDs because while there are some good movies available, there aren't any I would care to watch multiple times. With the 2% back I get for being a executive member and the proceeds from selling the BDs I hope to be into this player for less than $350. I'm very happy with the player so far, but I really don't know any different. The Prestige looks fantastic. It's nice to start collecting movies again, I've been in a holding pattern for a while because I didn't want to invest anymore money in standard dvds.

Sounds like typical sales tactics too. (Roll out the ones that won't sell first when the good ones are out.) We'll see what the consumer thinks. I imagine they will be unsure given all the FUD thrown around.

Question Sony blu-ray BDP S 301

I bought my Sony Blu-ray BDP S 301 at Costco on Saturday at $449.00
+ tax.

I'm concerned that this is a stripped down model at this lower price. Does anyone
know ? Or is this the same machine that was selling elsewhere for $999.00 until
recently ?

Also, I did not get any coupon for 5 free blu-ray disks. Could it be in the
box which I have not yet opened.

Thanks for your reply,

inside the box.

The 301 is exactly the same as the 300. The only difference is that the 301 has an HDMI cable in the box, which the 300 doesn't.

As for the 5 free movies, the BDA have an offer of 5 free movies with the purchase of and Blu-ray player between now and the end of September. Do a search of this site for more info.

Default Buy it!

You don't need to be a member of Costco. Just go in and take a picture of the store tag and then goto Best Buy and have them price match. Since the 300 and the 301 are the same, they will honor the price. Just picked up mine this weekend for the costco price!

That's awesome. I figured something like that wouldn't work with Costco since it's like a wholesale distributor. Good idea.

The Costco in my area (SC) had both the S301 and the Tosh A2 sitting next to each other. There were a fewer Tosh's on hand - prolly due to the duration that they have been on sale. What got to me was that there was a nice little display stand for the Tosh - but the S301 was just sitting there with no adornments. While I was there, neither model sold a single unit.

The coupons for the 5 free disks were placed on a tear-away board right next to the display unit for the S301. I assume that they had a similar arrangement for the Tosh - but I did not pay it that much attention.

Now, I hope they start selling BDs in the store!!

Rup.
